Exclamation Need Help with vibration.

okay. so around 35 i get this pulsing fibration from the truck. its an all over kinda thing so i dont think its a tire /balancing issue(ive already rotated them with no change n the vibration). i pulled the drive shaft and replaced the center u joint(the rear is new an the front seemed to be in good shape.) the hanger baring isnt all that old and also seems to be in good shape. checkd the dope in the diff, and topped it off just for the heck of it.
also when driving, when the vibration starts and i pop it in to neutral, it stops. but. if i rev the engine to a certian rpms(dont know what no tach installed) the vibration will continue. im not sure if this is in the drvie line(driveshaft to rearend) or in the engine or tranny. i checked all fluids and made sure everything was tight(engine, tranny, drive sahft rear end.) so im at a stant still now. ANY IDEAS??.. thanx. w.

Re: Need Help with vibration.

What type of tranny do you have? This could be a motor or tranny thing if it vibrates in nuetral. Did it just start? More info will help us help you.

I have had that problem......also, you might unbolt the converter , & turn it on the flex plate to find the best "balance point". You have 3 spots to bolt it down......just a thought before you spend the cash Best of luck... L

Re: Need Help with vibration.

Do you mean the balancer on the front of the engine?
Doesn't really explain why vibration goes away when in neutral then

Re: Need Help with vibration.

how doesnt it. when im driving the truck, the vibration starts....ill pop in into neutral, let it coast no vibration. the motor has idled down and not in the same rpm range. it will also do this in park. rev the engine and holding it at the rpm's that vibrate the truck. im going to check more into it in the am. (not tryning to be a smart ass. this is just getting a bit frustrating.....just trying to think clearly and not smash sumthn with a wrench..hahaha. thanx as always. w. )

Re: Need Help with vibration.

Balancer could be it, it makes the vibration at a certain rpm in gear or in nuetral or park, so it is engine rotating assembly related anything that spins with the crankshaft could be it, if not balancer, I'd really lean to thinking its the converter. It is pain in the ass, but you could pull the tranny and put a new stocker in there (pull the pan and look for metal, as converters usually frag when the do this), if there is metal, then have the tranny gone through. As long as the balancer is there it sould be ok, by the way have you pulled the plugs and run compression? This could be a high speed miss? I do not know if any of these are it, but any of them could be, hope something helps.

You asked. If it spins with the motor, it could be suspect. Don't underestimate anything. Had an engine (4 cyl) at work that broke an alt. bolt. Vibrated like crazy. R&R'd bolt, no vibration. Can't hurt to check can it? Hope ya find the problem before a big outlay of cash.

Later,

Dan

Re: Need Help with vibration.

It could be? It will take like 5 min, unbolt it and run two bolts back in the pulley without the fan and run it to the rpm where the vibration usually is and see. I have a wicked vibration in my old truck, but I was running solid motor mounts, so it was to be expected. Did it just start all the sudden?

Re: Need Help with vibration.

the vibration has been there somewhat from the start of the buildup....but i would find things here and there that i overlooked and it would get better as i wrenched an tightend all my loose ends.
took off the belt to the fan, still vibrates. still think it maybe the balancer, the ruber all around is pretty smooth but for one spot looks pretty ruff. it may have spun...what do you guys think? how do tell if a balancer has gone bad? thanx for all the help.

Re: Need Help with vibration.

See that didn't take long to check did it?
1--tells us what motor you have and what you did in it's buildup.
2--tells us if you started with a complete motor (did it come with the balancer and flexplate?)
