Re: Remove Rust stains on driveway...

its a little backyard mechanic, but I have used soft scrub on my cars in the past, it took the stains out without any problems, and while none of my cars had a show quality paint job, I never noticed any damage to the paint.

Simple Green and a pressure washer will work too.

Heck, you get a big enough pressure washer and you won't need any cleaner.

Re: Remove Rust stains on driveway...

The only thing I have found that works is "new concrete". Mine is all spotted with POR.

Re: Remove Rust stains on driveway...

If the driveway is concrete, muriatic acid is the bomb. BUT, it etches the concrete, so if yours is the slick smooth finish, it will be rough afterwards. The acid is GREAT for eating rust off of metal as it is, so it should take the rust off of the concrete as well.

On a side note, if you use the acid to take rust off of a part, don't let it sit too long in the acid or it will eat the whole part. also, you have to wash and scrub the part good afterwards to neutralize the acid, but then you have to dry it quick to prevent flash rust. IF the part is small enough, stick it in the kitchen oven on high for a few minutes.

Re: Remove Rust stains on driveway...

i'd try something like dish soap and a brush followed by a power washer first. it sounds weird but i found that dish soap really works well. just pour some over the oil stain and let it sit for an hour or two scrub it then let it sit for 15 or so then power wash.

if you go with the meriatic acid route make sure you dilute it alot! 2 cups to 5 gallons of water should do the trick. also this is really a 2 person thing, one to scrub with a broom like brush and another to man the garden hose. gloves rubber boots and a sightly windy day would be a good thing as well as this stuff is nasty. meriatic acid will burn you and or kill you if you don't pay attention. throw the brush away when you are done as it's going to fall apart anyway. experiment with the time you let it sit before you scrub it may take as little as 1 miniute. if there are stoborn spots remember you can allways come back and spot clean.

Re: Remove Rust stains on driveway...

Yeah, I forgot to mention the fumes...... They are nasty. Cleans your sinuses in 0.000001 second. You can get respirators that filter out muriatic acid (named specificly), but unless you are working with it alot, just stay upwind and hold your breath when you are really close. And always have water close by to rinse YOU off if you splash it on you.
