Rear shackle flip kit finished for my K5
Rather than spend $200 with ORD, I decided to make my own and spend the money elsewhere. These are definitely overkill, I know. I did use the ORD greasable bushings to help reduce binding and hopefully soften the ride a little more. If I measured right, it should give me 3"-4" lift to match the 2 1/2" lift springs on the front to give a level ride.

Re: Rear shackle flip kit finished for my K5
Nice welds and nice quality work. I was wondering the same thing about metal thickness, couldn't you make it out of the same thickness metal as the original hanger matrl? I want to make a set but was going to downsize metal thickness. Any thoughts ? Jim

That is REALLY nice looking work.
What is the angle of your shackle when the spring is compressed?

As far as metal thickness, I had 1/8 or 1/4, so I went heavier just to make sure. ORD hangers are $185 + shipping. They make quality stuff and I have no interest at this time competing against them. This was just an easy part to make so I decided to go ahead and make them. Mike

Re: Rear shackle flip kit finished for my K5
I am going to build my own shakle flip too. Might build it more like DIY4X.com's with a bushing in the flip and bar shakles like the ones on the front. Anyways, I measured on the rig but wanna confirm if you remember the bolt hole spacings. Looks to be 5.5" wide center to center and 2.25" vertical C to C. How far down from a measuing point did you take your shakle mounting hole to? Thank!!!

Re: Rear shackle flip kit finished for my K5
I don't know much about them, but that is nice looking. Would this help level out the Blazer? My front end sits a little higher than the rear and would like to level it. It has 3 or 4 inch blocks in the back right now. Thanks, Jeff.

Re: Rear shackle flip kit finished for my K5
Always cool to build it yourself, nice job.
What are your plans for the blazer in the end? Intended use? Overall lift? Drive train? Tires...ect? We need to know this stuff... Frame looks pretty sweet sittin' there too. |
