72 Brake Warning Light
Am I missing something or is there no brake failure warning light in a 72 C10?

Re: 72 Brake Warning Light
There should be a brake light in the lower left of the fuel gauge that comes on with the key. I would check the bulb first and if that is good check the sender unit that is on the prop valve.

Re: 72 Brake Warning Light
yup, a brown wire should be plugged into your proportioning valve. With the ignition switch on, the light will (should) come on if you ground that wire.

Re: 72 Brake Warning Light
Man, I must be getting old, I did not see it. OK, lazy is more like it. Just never noticed it coming on when cranking. I grounded at the P valve and it works. I watched while cranking and it came on. Sorry to have wasted server space!
So I see no switch on the E-brake assembly but on the wiring circuit it shows #209 Purple. I am guessing it ain't there since I can't find it. Anybody install a switch on the e-brake and splice into the circuit? Wife has problem understanding the e-brake release thing unless the light tells her... Re: 72 Brake Warning Light
I've been wanting to do this to mine, my first one had a micro switch installed. It's a fairly easy mod...but since my parking brake really doesn't work, it seems kinda stupid to rig up a light.
Every GM truck i have messed with (in that area), that wire is tan, not purple. Just for the record. |

Re: 72 Brake Warning Light
I had the same problem the wife driving my truck with the E-brake still active. I installed a reed switch and splice the tan wire. No drilling was needed to install the switch, only double sided tape. If pics are needed, I can post some.

Re: 72 Brake Warning Light
The black/white wire (ground) is connected to common and the brown wire is connected to NC.

Re: 72 Brake Warning Light
Any 70's GM car that has a switch should work. I looked at my 77 Trans Am and the brake assembly is very similiar. It has a sping loaded switch mounted with a small bracket and works like a brake pedal switch circuit. Be easy to do.
