Were any HIGHLY optioned trucks built?

Looking through my 67-72 Chev/GMC red book, it looks as though back in the day you could, if you wanted, order a very highly optioned truck. Thing is, I've never seen one!

Has anyone seen an example of, say, something originally configured with:

K10 or K20 short box
396
Power windows, power door locks
Buckets, console, tach
Air Conditioning

Certainly one could recreate such a truck, but I've been watching eBay for what seems like a looong time now, and you'll see these options individually, but I just haven't seen one truck that was "loaded"!

Thanks,
Dave

I have not seen one either, but a while back, people were posting options lists off glove boxes and one truck had 2 options stickers that was full.

Re: Were any HIGHLY optioned trucks built?

"IF" I recall correctly the 4X4 was not available as a big block. Some options at the time were not available with others but you could basically order what you wanted. It wasn't like now when if you want power windows you have to get the comfort conveinience package with heated power seats, auto door locks, and the overhead console with the automatic hat rack. The ability to do that was a boon to places like Dickey Chevrolet,Yenko and others who used the COPO system to build factory hotrods. They would order a stripper with a big block and manual 4 speed and they had a quick ride out of the factory.

Re: Were any HIGHLY optioned trucks built?

That is correct, no big blocks on 4X4 trucks, and no power windows or locks, but there was PLENTY of loaded trucks. I can't find longhornjeff's option sheet right now, but his 1969 CST/20 Camper special is loaded with a 396, TH400, center seat belt, clearance lights... all kinds of stuff.

Far as I know, those were never an option on our year trucks. I am not sure if you could get them in 73 either. It was sometime during that era of trucks is when they showed up.

Re: Were any HIGHLY optioned trucks built?

I'm going to try and install power windows out of a mid 80's chevy van. The vans actually have many parts that swap into the 67-72 trucks. I've had them side by side and with replacement rollers (correct size for 67-72) they appear identical.

Re: Were any HIGHLY optioned trucks built?

NO big block 4x4, power windows, power door locks, power seats. But you could get: air, tilt, buckets, console, tach, tint, shoulder belts, trim packages, cloth seat upgrade, running lights, delux mirrors, step bumper, bed light, coolent recovery, dual batteries, 4x4, longhorn, etc. By mid 70's, a lot more options became available. Trucks for the most part were bought by people who needed a truck to do truck things which tended to wear out like trucks do thus a low precentage of high optioned trucks survive.

Re: Were any HIGHLY optioned trucks built?

The highest optioned trucks I have personally seen and ridden in were a 71 cheynne with "all the options" but no power locks or windows and a 70 CST/10 and it was the same no power locks or windows. AC, power brakes and steering tilt, am radio, tach, wood grain and all the chrome and the "fancy"
interior with headliner, cargo light and factory sliding back glass (I think). No electric locks or windows on either truck.

They do make power window and door lock kits for these trucks. You don't have to scavenge a newer vehicle. Unless it's free, of course...

What is the Highlander package? I've never seen a reference to it in a parts catalog.

Basically a marketing tool to move the last of the 1972 truck models before the all new body style came out in 73. There is a lot of info about these on this forum. The Highlander interior came in 4 plaid color combos (blue/white/black; green/white/black; red orange/white/black; and ?). I've only seen the green and the blue ones. I also believe all the door panels were white. Definately a very sharp Scottish themed interior.

Re: Were any HIGHLY optioned trucks built?

My 72 longhorn has just about every option you could get, it has all the factory listed ones with the orange/black and white interior. The glove box sticker is full and another one with the owners manual package. I bought it from the orginal owner out of Idaho with 67,000 miles.
I haven't done anything with it since having it shipped here(NC) 6 years ago.
Stored in a fur warehouse for when I can do it right. It is straight, rust free and ran good but needs to be gone thru.
Of all my years messing with these trucks it is the most optioned I have seen but not really the most desirable....if it was a SWB 4X4 it would be worth something to the general public.
I have some pix around here somewhere.........if i can find them I will post
BB,A/C,P/S,HIGHLANDER,3/4,TILT,TINTED,SLIDING,TOOL BOX,TOWING PACKAGE,DUAL BATTERY,HIGH OUTPUT ALT, DESERT COOLING,BUMBER GUARDS, AM/FM,TISSUE DISPENSER, 8 TRACK, FULL SEAT BELTS, FLOOR MAT,CARGO LIGHT,BED STEPS,AUTO,4:56 POSI,TACH,WINDSHEILD WASHERS, HUB CAPS, DUAL EXHAUST. AUX TANKS, FULL OUTSIDE CHROME TRIM WITH CHROME REAR STEP BUMBER(DEALER INSTALLED?) DOOR EDGE CHROME, DRIP MOULDINGS, THROTTLE CONTROL PLUS A FEW OTHERS I CAN'T REMEMBER

My 69 CST came with all the good options plus a Throttle Option. Located just under the headlight switch. I haven't seen that on any 69 yet.

I had a 69 parts truck that had the hand throttle. It was a half ton.

Was having full seat belts listed as an option on the glovebox? I have them but they're not on the sticker.

Re: Were any HIGHLY optioned trucks built?

I assume by 'full seatbelts' , he means shoulder harnesses, which were seperate belts from the lap belt. Anything else, and it isn't original.
Shoulder harnesses WOULD be listed.

Re: Were any HIGHLY optioned trucks built?

The tow package, all the paper work is packed up but on the orginal invoice they listed a tow package, from what I can tell it comprised of the trailer wiring, a weight equalizing hitch and the trailer brake control......... plus it has the roof clearance lights.
I packed the truck and all the stuff, the invoice, bill of sale, the original tile, salesman business card and the rest in a safe place. At the time I was traveling a lot for work and lived in the middle of DC. no parking and my place would get broken into a lot.
