I was reading the highly optioned trucks thread and thought I would ask what the most unusual or rare option anyone had seen.

I have seen only 1 floor shift tilt.I think that would probably do it for rare and maybe even unusual.

Their is a '69 GMC K2500 sitting in the basement of a firehouse about 3 miles from me..........Its like new and I seriously mean it. It was bought new in '69 by the same department. They bought a new brush truck and this is no lie, they have a 3 page list of potential wanna be buyers...........Dept. decided it was too nice to sell, so they are keeping it for a backup/parade truck.

Mine has a floorshift with tilt along with buckets, tach, etc.. But I believe the rarest option on it may be the K43 Poly-Wrap air cleaner. I still havent figured out what that means. It sounds like it may be an air filter with foam wrapped around it.

I always come up with rare/odd combinations over one single rare option whenever I get into this subject.

I once saw a factory oil bath pre air cleaner on a 1967 c/10. It was ducted into the dry element air filter on the carb. The oil bath was installed where the aux. battery was installed so you couldn't order both options.

tissue despensor isn't an option on these trucks.
Oil bath and maybe the poly wrapped filters would have been somewhat common on the bigger trucks in this series.
Sholder belts aren't all that rare, just uncommon. The 4 speed tilt has belts beat by a HUGE margin.

I suppose the 4spd. tilt would be rarer yet in a 4x4? I just cant find any information on the poly-wrap air cleaner. Did it have a different canister?

Instead of upper side molding I have "Painted Body Stripe" on my 70 3/4T. White body with 2 black pin stripes. Also then have the lower side molding.

Can't switch it to another truck, can't sell it, but you sure can clone it - if you wanted too.

My 1st 71 swb I had in 79 had that stripe on it. Mine was 2 thin stripes about 3/8" apart down area where upper trim would have been. I remember quite a few of these. I think those in our area were a dealer installed option. The bozo I was sanded down the truck and had it shot a non-stock color, no stripe!!

Do dealer installed options count? I have a GM CB radio.

IMO they don't count, becouse you can't document them, and some dealers offered things that others did not, but a factory option was avalible to anyone with the money for the option.
Like the 67 crew cab fine69 had, it was a nevada truck it's whole life... with a block heater.

I'm sure it gets chilly at night... but block heaters aren't even needed here in ohio in a gas motor.

The painted stripe was somewhat common also. Most were just painted over.
I had honestly never even heard of the ply wrap, and I'm just going by the above posted... just like the oil canister for the oil bath air filter mounted by the core support. The only oil bath type I have ever seen or even heard of is all contained in the air filter.

That is why I considered the poly-wrap a rare option. I just can't seem to find any specific information on it. It is on the glove box sticker though, so I know it is factory installed. See the attached picture of the sticker.

I didn't know they were rare, but I picked up a 72 Jimmy a little while ago, and it had a four speed floor shift with a tilt column! Tach dash too!
Can't wait to start the restoration!!!

I have a 1970 GMC that I have always considered to be "loaded" with options. It has bucket seats, 350 v8, tachometer, a/c, tool and storage box, and cruise control. It has always puzzled me why they did not order a tilt column when they ordered this truck. Then I began to wonder if you could not get a tilt column if you had ordered the cruise control. Because the 1970 and earlier cruise control was actuated by the turn signal mast in the column that might have caused problems. Does anyone have a 1970 and earlier truck with cruise that also has tilt?

He means it wasn't a factory option. The tissue dispensor was something the dealer had to install.

Also, the hand throttle is listed as an option on the glovebox.

Drip rail chrome trim was also a dealer added option. It wasn't available from the factory.
