Ok, I have the makings of my bag kit. Now I need "the little things" and these little things are getting spendy!

Does anyone use a water trap? It makes sense to me, but none of the setups I have looked at have one.

Here is my "small list":
Fittings (way too many to count, I can tell this will be a multi-store trip)
Gauges
Switch panel
Wires
Water trap

I found a cool switch panel that has an alarm input that will dump when the alarm is trigered and it also has a key for valet so you can lock your switches. I thought this was a cool idea, but it adds to the ever growing list of mods to my truck.

Guess that's why they say "take your best guess at a project budget, then double it."

The switchbox looks like a pretty good deal. Suicide doors sells almost the exact same box from AVS for $109 and they dont have a 7 switch box with the lock. I have a water trap on one of my compressors. Its just a cheap one from Home Depot or something but it catches water.

So do you have the water trap before the tank? I have a water trap in the shop, but it's after the tank. I'm trying to come up with a plumbing diagram with 8 valves, 1 tank, 1 compressor, and I'm not sure where to put the trap.

Do you also have a drain valve on the tank?

Does anyone have a solid plumbing diagram? The one used on "Project Old School" in Classic Trucks is ok, but they don't list the fittings used/needed and I'm a little lost as to what I need.

I can't speak to the mechanical or electrical quality of these switches, but a good (ON)-OFF-(ON) from Carlingswitch or other quality switch company, will run you $10+ each.

I just llike the idea of the pre-wired switches and the valet feature is a plus. I could make a mount and run switches, but the box is only 4x2x1, so it can go just about anywhere.

OUCH! Nearly $200 just for fittings and air lines! Man, I didn't think fittings would cost THAT much, man that hurts.

good fittings are worth their weight in gold ... go with a name brand like Parker or Swagelok.

anything less and you're gonna be chasin' your tail trying to hunt down all the leaks ... also, make sure you buy DOT approved tubing.

The $200 is priced out on *****************. I did notice that for the same amount of money, I can get all the fittings in bags of 10 for the same price as 4 from Grainger. I am thinking about getting the bags of 10 (Parker brand) and putting together a "fittings kit" with what's left to resell on ebay.

I was looking at the online price for Grainger too. I get a military discount there as well, so I'd save 15% off the top. Plus I can get it local to avoid shipping.

You can also check out a Big Rig shop for air line parts. Their is a peterbuilt place in Sacramento and they have alot of parts and pieces that are all DOT. But yes it is not cheap for good parts.

Yea def hit up a semi parts store, i can buy all brass DOT compression fittings and nylon line for an 8 valve setup for just over $80.

I had to make multiple trips to the hose supply store, but it was worth it in the end. I have no leaks in my push-to-connect fittings, I bought only the all brass DOT fittings for air brake systems that the big rigs use. They are spendy but worth it.
On your water trap, it's best to run it between the compressors and the tank. You don't want water in your tank, it will sit there and it will rust out your tank from the inside.

Thanks for the tips! I just need to find a shop near by. I'm sure there are at least a few with Freightliner not too far from my office. My whole setup is 1/2", so everything but the gauges are all the same size.
