new here with a new truck
well i got me a 72 3/4 long bed 4x4 last night, i got this thing intending on making a 4 door. but i dont want the suburban conversion, i want bigger rear doors like a new dodge mega cab. so i threw together this rough chop as to what it might look like. i barrowed another truck from this site. so i think the hardest part will be to sqaure out the upper door pillars where they meet, and i will run 5 ft 10 in bed. what do you think.

Re: new here with a new truck
I don't think you'll win any photoshop contests but it looks like a cool project to me.
Getting those rear doors done up right will take a lot of work but it's doable.

Re: new here with a new truck
Somebody posted a pic of a red truck in that style a few years back as well. Good luck with your project, and welcome to the board.

Re: new here with a new truck
I think you will still want to use Suburban parts to get your straight pillars. Also, you may want to rethink the stretched doors.Dreams come big,and if you reach them, that`s awesome. But,I`ve learned to downsize them to what I know can happen, then reach a bit farther when it`s that close. It`s all alot of work, either way.Although it may look cool with longer doors, the `Burb doors are up to par with today`s crewcab proportions.Heck,if anything,I`d want to stretch the front doors since they get all the use and would make better proportions. This is all my opinion,I tend to speak it freely,no biggy.Great thoughts and welcome to the site.Got any pictures of the real thing? That`s kinda what I was expecting to see.BTW,I`m a K/20phile.

Re: new here with a new truck
im thinking the using the truck cabs instead of the suburban will make it easier. since i wont have to lower the burb roof line and weld the back half on to the burb body. and the big one for me is trying to create a 4th door. i know its been done i just dont think im up to that. i know changing the posts where the 2 cabs meet will be alot of work. but i think i can handle that better than the 4th door project. plus i really like the idea of the front and rear doors being the same size. i will get picks very soon the frame just got blasted now i need to por15 it and all chassis parts. then i will have pics, plus i still need a good 2nd cab, so if anyone has a good one in utah let me know.

Re: new here with a new truck
I built a extended cab for a customer and the crew cab is for me . I used a suburban for mine but the ex-cab was stretched and I had to build everything in between . I think the roof is alot easier to fix than the door posts are to build

Re: new here with a new truck
well i think i figured out how i want to do this crewcab conversion. im going to take out a total of 41 inches from the long bed. 30" from the front of the bed, and 11" from the rear. and that gives me enough room for the door and about a 1 1/2" inbetween the two doors. and then i will use another cab behind the factory cab and all truck doors. but alot of fab to sqaure up the posts where the two doors meet. so front doors will be same legnth as the rear doors like a megacab dodge. so i will need to round up a bit of suburban door pillars and roof area. i think it will be a fun project, and i will post pics as i go. bed will be about 5ft 1in.
