Grandad's Truck..... - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

This photo was probably taken around 1945-48 not sure. He was a taxi driver in Mexico.

My Grandfather, on my Dad's side, had hip surgery Friday because he fell off the bed in the hospital he is living in Amarillo, TX. Due to complications and poor health to begin with he did not get any better over the weekend. He was already in a hospital with 24hr care. He has not be able to get rid of the infection from surgery and developed fluid in his lungs. My mother called me this morning and said he had a heart attack and is not doing well. My family has decided not to put him on life support. They are just waiting for all his immediate family to be there, My father, his 3 brothers and one sister.

My Grandfather had a 1969 LWB C10 the he bought new. One of my uncles ended up with it and sold it about the same time I bought mine in 2003. My Grandfather is one of the big reasons I am into these ole trucks. I always remember staring at the dash in his truck and used to ask him why the ignition key was next to the radio. I couldn't see any higher because I was so young. Ha ha, I also remeber he ran over my older brother's bike one time in the drive way. he kept telling us not to leave them there. Then one afternoon we cam out and my brothers bike was under the C10. Luckly there was minimal damage, to the truck. Oh the bike was ok to. Anyway I had many fond memories with my Grandad and family.

Here are the photos of his trucks. I thought he only had one but found out he owned 2 a 68 GMC and a 69 Chevy. the 46 in the pics was my Fathers.

Sorry to hear about your grandfather. He sure had a nice truck though, to bad you couldn't get ahold of it. I always wish I had something of my grandfathers but I dont. Maybe it will turn up one day for you and you could restore it.

One day every one of us will be knocking at deaths door like your grandpa and mine. It should make us think about the way we live and treat others. There is only one person I know of who lived on this earth and defeated death, and it is only through Him that we can go to our grave in peace, knowing we will live again. What we experience then will make these old Chevys we love here seem, well, like Fords. Hang in there my brother, our prayers are with you.

Zumo, you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers as well. Be strong and be thankfull that you spent time together to give you a lifetime of happy memories to help carry you through the rough times.

Zumo,

Your grandfather had an excellent taste in trucks. And I admire your sentimental view you have of these trucks because of him. Did you ever think about trying to make out the license plate in one of those pictures in hopes of tracking down the trucks.... either to buy them or just see where they are today?

Either way, I'm sure your grandfather is proud of your interest in his truck. I wish only the best for you and your grandfather.
