Question Tranny won't shift!!!

I'm having troubles with my tranny not wanting to shift out of 1st gear unless motor is reved up pretty high. Is there a way to adjust the vaccum modulator? What is proper vaccum pressure I need? Any suggestions?
I replaced filter and tranny fluid. Please help, my wife keeps saying ( I told you not to buy that TRUCK!!! )

Re: Tranny won't shift!!!

Try shifting manually. If it shifts fine, check your vacuum to your modulator. If not, then I can't help.

Re: Tranny won't shift!!!

sum vaccum modulators are adjustable yes, but not in stock form
if it has been changed to a after market one then yes its possible

Re: Tranny won't shift!!!

I had this problem once before. My problem was the governor in the trans. tells the trans when to shift. It is located on the back under a cap that resmbles a grease dust cap. I replaced mine and it shifted fine. Maybe this will help you out.

Re: Tranny won't shift!!!

I think it's one of 2 things. If you have the kick down cable mis-adjusted it will act exactly like that. Two, it could be your vacuum modulator.
Good luck!

Re: Tranny won't shift!!!

kick down is very unlikeoy...but possable.
I agree with a drive around the block and drive it like a stick, but rev it just a little more than it's normal shift point, then stab it into the next gear. If it shifts, then look at the vac line real close both on the engein to the hard line, and underneath at the modulator to the hardline.

Re: Tranny won't shift!!!

Here is a website that explains how a tranny shifts. It is worth reading and makes sense to us non experts.

Re: Tranny won't shift!!!

When my truck was doing this, I found the vacuum line had a hole. Replaced it and it worked great. Good luck.
