starter wires??

I have a 77 half ton w/350 small block. the engine starts from the remote starter but not from the cab. i think i wired the starter wrong. the manual i have is not clear on what wires go where. it only gives colors not terminals. the solenoid has 3 terminals correct? 1 is a battery terminal. can anyone explain to me which wires go where when looking at the solenoid from the front of engine? thanks

I have a 75 C20 and recently I re-did charging wiring as well as installing mini starter because of headers.

Well - starter should have three terminals.

1) The 3/8" stud should have label "B" it used for battery cable (2 AWG RED) and main DC bus feed (10AWG RED and 16AWG Black)

2) #10 sized stud labeled "R" is not used with HEI ignition system. It is a carryover from conventional points ignition systems that required field voltage for points based ignition systems.

3) #8 sized stud labeled "S" is used to activate stater. In 1975 model a 12AWG BLK wire is connected to terminal -6- of the master bulkhead connector located near your master brake cylinder.

The following modifications improve starting and electrical system performance.

1) Replace starter cable with 0 or 2/0 sized cable or better - lower voltage drop between battery and starter.

2) Reroute and replace main DC bus wire with 8AWG directly from battery to the distribution junction block - typically located on the firewall to the right of the HEI. This modification eliminates hot starting problem plagaging many GM vehicles - battery to starter voltage drop is no longer an issue. Do not forget to use appropriate fuse-wire to prevent wiring fires in case of shorts.
