Crate engine
Hey Everyone!
I;ve been off the board awhile. Moved into a new house and got a baby boy due in November...gotta get the nursery ready and all... Oh well, ANYWAY... Looks like I'll be putting a new plant in my '84 Silverado. And as bad as I HATE to give up that good ol' 305 (HAHA) I plan to upgrade to a 350. I've been looking at the 330HP Deluxe HO on CrateEngineDepot.com and was wondering if anyone had used them before or new of a better site to check out. I also heard that you can use a GM discount when purchasing one of their crate engines. Does anyone know? Thanks, Jim |

Re: Crate engine
I'm plannin' on the same engine, the HO350. 330 horses and 380 ft/lbs.
Scoggin Dickey has it for less than 2400.

Re: Crate engine
I wanted that engine, but it was a little out of my price range.
AFAIK, it has a one piece rear main seal. Make sure you get the right flexplate for it. I went the opposite direction. My '86 305 had a one piece rear main and I swapped it for an earlier style crate. The flexlates are not interchangeable. I think it also uses vortec heads, so you will need to get a comptible intake. I'm almost positive your old one wont fit. I bought my crate engine from Summit Racing. When factoring in shipping, they had the best price. Other people had comparable pricing, but had much more expensive shipping. I never considered Scoggins Dickey since they are here in Texas. I would have had to pay tax. I think Dave (LOHRTBT) had that engine in his truck that was stolen. You might PM if you have questions. I have a friend who works for a local GM dealer. His price on my engine through the dealership was higher than through Summit, so check out all of your options. Slonaker |

Re: Crate engine
Thanks for the response. This engine in the deluxe configuration comes with intake, carb, distributer and flexplate for just under 3500.00. I think their shipping is around 250.00.
