Crate Motor?

I have recently purchased a 71 longhorn with the original motor, a 350. I have had some problems due to it sitting a while in a barn and am trying to decide the best approach to get a mechanically sound truck. Should i focus on rebuilding the original motor or look for a crate motor? If a new motor is the way to go, though expensive, who is the best vendor on a cost standpoint and what things should I look out for to ensure I don't make the wrong choice.

The body is in great shape with very minimal rust, original paint, radio, shocks, the whole truck is original. New to this, but want to do a solid resotration for a daily driver.

Help?

Re: Crate Motor?

IMHO if i was gonna build a driver i would look at th GM crate 260hp engine. ive bought two of them in the last 15yrs and will never rebuild another motor unless its something special (DZ302 etc.)
both my motors came from a GM dealer and cost me 1200$ each or w/ a 50k/3yr warrenty. all brand new. just add your stock intake/carb,exhaust and away ya go. worth every penny.
now if you want a hot rod then you can go either route- build a monster or buy a monster. doesnt sound like thats what ya want though.
