I have a lead on a cherry 85 step tailgate GMC no less. Will it fit my 68 step chevy bed?

Need to know ASAP>

I have always heard that they were the same. Go for it! Take some measurements and a tape with you if you aren't sure.

found a site that was selling a tailgate and said it went from 54 to 87 so I think it will work. Goign to buy it. Now I have the option to make my GMC into a step side GMC. VS turning it into a Chevy.

Not sure which way I will go but IF I dont use it I know it can be sold here.

55 second serries (not 54) up to 87 are all the exact same, and still avalible at your local dealership. (don't know about GMC stamping though)

ummmm, no, I think it's probably a bit more than 50 bones. Good score.

Although, I have been told they ARE cheap.

Longhorn Man, Not to jack my own thread but what does the list of Clubs under your name refer to? I have seen it on others and others that have names yours does not have some in other colors too. Just trying to figure it out.

Might be fun to call my local Chevy or GMC Dealership to find out though.

I think the repop I found today with Chevrolet lettering was about 200 or so. and the non stamped version was about half that.

Think the GMC might push me towards making my 67 lWB GMC as a 67 Short Step GMC after I swap the cab over to the shortStep bed frame I have.

The only difference in the GMC gates from`55 1st series (my`55 1st had the flat-tops on the bedsides) to`87 is at some point(`63,I believe)the stamping for the letters changed.The earlier ones had the old logo with the "M" extending under the "G" and the "C".

Hi all Im fairly new here as far as posting goes ..I too am looking for a tailgate that reads chevrolet .. for my 69 stepside shorty can any on give me any leads for finding one ? color not important but must not be bowed or all beat ..
