Engine swap into my 64
Ok, I got a deal on an 350 tpi that included the 700R4 tranny that I couldn't pass up....
Can anyone help me out on what engine mounts to use in my 64... Has anyone ever used the engine mount crossmember that Jegs and summit have? Not really sure which way to go, the only V8 mounts I have have only 1 center hole, and the engine has a newer style engine mount ..... Any help would be great!!! And any other info on installing the engine would be great... I have spent the last week really reading up on the engine and the TPI system...... Thanks Chad

Re: Engine swap into my 64
sounds like it's gonna be awesome once it's in. I havne't done one yet, but would suggest just calling summit and talking to one of their reps. I usually end up calling them and they usually know what to do, even if it's not from them. Or I'd suggest if you have a local parts house you go to, not like napa, but a local small one where the people are car guys, go and ask them, sometimes they know.

Re: Engine swap into my 64
Chad, there are several ways to mount the engine. I don't know what V8 mounts you have, but when you say "one hole" I guess you mean the 63-66 strait six and V8 brackets. These should bolt to the engine with the correct rubber mount, but there could be a problem with exaust manifold clearance depending on which ones you use. The 73-87 V8 brackets can be bolted to your frame, but they may pick the engine up a little in the front. I've never used any of the aftermarket mounting setups, but I'm sure there's something that will work. As for the transmission mount, a crossmember from a 63-72 truck with an automatic, or most any 73-87 crossmember can be used by simply drilling the holes in your frame where you need them. The only problem you might run into would be if your truck has the crossmember for the emergency brake, it might be in the way. Best of luck.
