8000 miles to the parts store...

Hi Guys,
I intoduced myself a few weeks ago, I live in New Zealand and have bought a 72 GMC K2500. I am in the final stages of putting together the parts I need to fix this truck up. Wes has either got a big pile of box's up there, or he's nearly got a new truck built! Couple of questions for you's.
The side marker bulb holder/plugs (male piece that plugs into back of lens) are pretty worn/burnt on my truck. Can these be bought new anywhere? Not a loom, just the plug piece.
I have a sliding rear window, can you get new felts (?) for them?
And I want to buy some Hedman Elite Headers, #69830. Link to Summit store here -
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...D69830&FROM=MG
I appreciate everyone has their own favourite brand of header. More specifically does anyone have these headers on their truck, do they fit good, can you get at the starter motor at all? I have a 400/350 in my truck.
Thanks for any input. I can't just run down to the parts store, bone yard like you can, so I'm just trying to cover what I can with one big order!!
Ment to be in the shop taking my front hubs apart, and the sand blaster guy is coming tomorrow to 'blast' everything. Progress at last!
Bill.

Do y'all have any boneyards down there at all? I'm thinking the pigtails for the marker lights aren't gonna be unique, you should be able to find something close enough to work on a later model GM product.

Thanks Krue, yeah plenty of bone yards, no GM pickups in them! Full size pickups are still not that common down here. I'll persue the later model option though.

Try the vans, I know the lenses are the same size, also the any of the late GM cars with similar size/shape sidemarkers (land yacht's and such), they gotta be pretty close.

Re: 8000 miles to the parts store...

The amber, front side marker lights on my 1971 Monte had the same plug.

I haven't taken one apart lately but I believe the red rear side markers on 70-72 Chevelles have that same plug.

I think any yard with an older GM may have what you need.

Then grab the glove box light. The Chevelle/Monte of this vintage doesn't work but many others do. The Chevelle/Monte glove box light is angled. The one that works is straight. I pulled the one in my truck out of a full-sized GM station wagon.

Also on the later model GM front drive cars, the interior lights under the dash in the plastic shields have the same type socket, and they havent been out in the weather.

I Have that exact set of headers, beware that they DO NOT look like
the ones pictured, the ones pictured are like what I took off, except
that mine were rusty, that part # is for a mid length header, cya

*Examples are in the 4WD linky in my siggy, pages 13-15 I think

Re: 8000 miles to the parts store...

Just got off the phone with Hedman, yeah that Summit photo is wrong, 69830 is just like you got LUV2XCL8 (but you know that already!!), same as a 69230 (picture on the Hedman site - http://www.hedman.com/pages/H60000-Series.htm) but an Elite. Heavier flange and coated. So you are happy with the headers, the fit, and can you get to the starter motor? This message board is out on it's own when it comes to getting answers to stuff. Wouldn't have such a big pile of parts all over the shop and a balloning Visa bill if it wasn't for all the information I've got from this site. Thanks again.

Re: 8000 miles to the parts store...

Thanks for the quick responce, sounds good enough for me. I'll get the Hedmans, some Stage 8 bolts (?), MSD distributor, and a Performer Air Gap (if I can swing it!) and that will take care of motor stuff for now. Couple more weeks and I can get all this stuff on the water!
Sandblaster guy has kidney stones! Doh. So I'm stripping the cab out. Well, ment to be!
