Thumbs down Argh!!!Soft top order woes

I ordered a soft top in late July when I realized I`d be keeping my`90 Blazer for awhile.I always wanted one since I bought the Blazer new. But,it was our family car and I was concerned it wasn`t practicle as far as security goes.Well, since I`m keeping it for the time being,I thought it would be nice to have and give it appeal when I sold it,prolly next spring. When I ordered it from STC they said it was a 5 week wait.It made me wish I had ordered it earlier in the season, but figured it would still be nice for a September trip to Assateague Is. in Sept. and general cruising in the early fall. After 6 weeks I checked in to get it`s status. It`s not ready,it`s been 7 weeks, they say they`re having trouble getting aluminum for the side rail, and I should check back in a couple weeks.I was hoping when they originally said 5 weeks that this was a worst case waiting period.I mean, that`s a long backorder as it is.I figure that would kill alot of sales so they`re being honest and hoped it would actually be less time. That`s what most businesses do,then you`re happy when it comes sooner, not angry waiting for your paid in full merchandise. So,at week 9 I`ll be "checking" to see "when" it will be "ready".I`m usually patient, but that`s $600 I could use before next spring and would have liked to get some pleasure from it before I sell the vehicle for the same money with or without a second top.
ARGH!!!!

Re: Argh!!!Soft top order woes

I had to cancel my order after 8 weeks. STC could not give a deliver date from an original 3 week delivery time frame. I cancel about 4 weeks ago and giving the "we dont have the aluminium parts" and dont know when we will get them.

I put my hard top on and will have a custom top fabricated in my area. My credit card was refunded.

Does no one else make them? I was thinking about getting one later on after the Blazer had more items fixed but looks like I won't get one with this much trouble.

Re: Argh!!!Soft top order woes

When I cancelled my order for the soft top I researched for another manufacturer and found "can-back" a canvas type of soft top. You can go online and search can-back and you will find the web site. Unfortunetly for me they dont manufacture a soft top for a 72 blazer and also they are way behind on production for other models as well.

Re: Argh!!!Soft top order woes

The original tops were produced by Kayline and they were bought by speicalty Top. Can-Back was sold and has just been recently started back up and are probably behind as well.

As far as I know, only 2 companies now make a top for the K5's.
