Need help... removing gauge bezel!

I'm getting frustrated. Trying to remove my gauge bezel to see if I can repair the printed circuit. I've got all the screws out of the bezel, wiper knob is off, headlight knob is off. Oil pressure line is undone. Wiring harness unplugged. Speedo is unhooked.

It's as if there's something holding it on TIGHT where the headlight & wiper knobs go into the dash.

Are there retaining nuts there? I can't feel any.

I'm definitely missing something... but I really am at a loss.

Could someone please steer me in the right direction? I wanna get this baby out before dark. (About 45 minutes to go!)

Thanks in advance!

Besides pulling the knobs off of the wiper and headlight controls you have to totally remove them. It's a nut looking thing you see after taking the knobs off.

Do you have the chrome bezel retaining nuts off?
There's a pic below. I just use a flat screwdriver and a hammer, insert it into the top slot, and tap it loose.

Let me clarify, place the blade into the top slot at an angle! Not dead straight on...lol, you'll put a hole in the dash....

I put the tips of a pair of needle nose pliers in the holes and turn them out, If they're tight just slip a screwdriver in between the handles or tips and turn.

That's what I did the first time I took mine out Ron, but I haven't been able to find my needle nose pliers lately!!! LOL

That method works just as well, I agree.

GOT 'EM!

It was that chrome bezel ring retaining nut thing. I didn't realize those actually unscrewed. DUH! Since I didn't have needle nose pliers handy, I put a towel over the the bezel nut and used a pair of vice grips. Out they came.... woohoo!

Thanks for the FAST replies... I really appreciate it!

One quick question - all of the bulbs are in those little sockets which make contact with the printed circuit. Except one. It's hard wired to a socket and went in behind the speedo. Is that typical? I'd love to find some sockets like that so I can do away with the printed circuit altogether.

The hard wired one is not typical.. Only 4 of them are dash lights the rest are turn signals, high beam indicator, brakes and I can't think of the other one right now (it'll come to me as soon as I hit send) as long as you know where the wires feed from you could hard wire them with the "POP IN" type bulb holders instead of the quarter turn jobbies.

I think the hard wire one he is refering to is the one with the fiber optical line that lights the shift indicater on the auto column.
This is normal. It still gets lit from the cicuit board like the others, that wire ust caries the light to the pointer on the shifter. Be very carefull not to break that...very hard to come by.
