Finally GM is doing something right!

Got my new Sport Truck Magazine and my new Classic Trucks(congrats Big Orange) well in my new Sport Trucks in the front thay have a right in about GM is gonna produce an SS Silverado, w/ the 6L Vortec V8, all wheel drive, suspension, ground effects, and rollin on dubbs! Rated @ 345 Hp 380 ftlbs. Finally Mr. Lutz is stirrin things up and makin them engineers make soemthing that get up and go other than the vette! Only bad thing is later on in that mag it mentioned that the 2005 Lighting is supposed to be upgraded to twin turbos.

ill admit its not the greatest thing to hit the road but it appears to be a start in the right direction for GM to catch back up on the street performance market that it used to dominate

Its a Start,

But the power isnt there, if they want to compete with the lightning it needs a good 375hp, the 8.1 litre 496 would have done the job with a supercharger. The AWD will help im sure too...

late model gm

It seems to me that GM quit making trucks back in 88 when they removed the solid front axle. Remember when you could custom order a truck item per item. The yuppie engineers they have now have probably never even sat in a 67-72 vintage truck. Technology is a wonderful thing when it works and when you dont need to take a second mortgage out to afford it!

And it is still butt ugly.
Gremlins could be ordered with a small block and a 4 speed, but they still looked so bad that no one wanted one.

im still pretty sure i read somewhere that the 8.1 was gonna be offered in the Avalanche as an option, then caddy might produce the v12 in the Cien for the Gm light duty truck line up

gremlins... those were the days..

Hey now! Gremlins were cool, especially if yours had a small block! I had one in HS until that tree jumped in front of me. Used to love dusting all the wannabes in their mustang 2's and camaros! That car was a blast to drive as long as you didn't turn corners!

Let's face it, we all know what market both F__d and Gm is going for,and it's not guys like us. They won't be satisfied until all trucks look like grocery carts and all cars look like t--ds going down the road backwards at 20 mph. The Libs and the treehuggers want all the SUVs junked and instead of letting us drill for more oil they want to stop ALL smokestack industry. All our grandchildren will get to work at Burger King instead of learning a trade. And of course, by that time we'll all be rich from sueing Mikidees for making us too fat, and NO ONE will accept any responsibility for their own actions. But the Snakedarters will be thriving!! Great world to look forward to. So long--I'm going to shoot myself before they take my gun.

I said it before and I'll say it again, if I was buying a new truck today, you would be looking at a new lightning owner. Way faster, way better looking, and probably a little cheaper. Again, GM thinks it can throw a S/S badge on anything and it will be a classic. To me the GM stopped making real S/S cars in '72. Ford has an affordable muscle car with the mustang, that for just a little money and a few bolt on items can run in the high 11's, Chevrolet has what? The vette? who can afford one? Stopped making the Camaro, ????? what bone head made that decision. I would rather spend 10-12,000 on a 67-72 that is fully restored, than $30-32,000 on a 2002 that will be worth 10-12,000 in about 5 years. At least you can work on the old stuff without having to replace $250 trinket parts w/$100 worth of labor and a $75 diagnostic check fee.........JB

That thing is FUGLY! And the Avalanche goes right with it. Seems like everything GM is putting out has 500 pounds of plastic moulding draped all over it and squared off stealth fighter looking headlights. Whatever happened to subtle body lines?

I'll take a plain 'ol 2002 Silverado shortbox and throw a supercharger on it and still be thousands ahead.

Oh boy, an opportunity to vent! Whomever at GM is responsible for ever allowing the Avalanche and Aztek to be produced should be horse-whipped! City-boy faggot-rides!! I cannot imagine what kind of brain-trust came up with the idea of taking out the back glass, folding down the remaining back (or whatever), and then driving down a good ol' country road without having the cab immediately fill with swirling dust. Maybe I've missed something here, but that is the most laughable idea that I can remember coming out of Detroit since the Edsel. And besides that, both of those vehicles are just plain fugly!

this pastic trend is just stupid, all late model vehicles are like this. the only thing i dislike about my girlfriends 94 Tran am is that is filled w/ plastic. If i want a to drive around in plastic car i'll go ahead and bust out my old PowerWheels Bigfoot.

If you wanna know where GM truck stylists moonlight go to a Radio Shack and look at the R/C tanks and trucks--maybe Avalanches have an optional R/C antenna?

no kidding. lets see, ext cab 6.0 awd with all that extra weight and 345hp or you can go buy a 2002 silverado 1500 shortbed with the 5.3 at 285 hp which probably almost weighs a full 1000lbs less, i bet theyre the same speed.

the shortbeds with 5.3s run low to mid 15s stock i hear, throw on an intake, exhuast and perf computer reprogrammer and your probably almost into the 14s for $800.

What really blows about that truck is the fact that GM lowered the HP. I have been eagerly awaiting to see the Silverado SS but now, my 68 can still probably beat that thing in a Race!! The only thing that truck has going for it is that it has Overdrive where my 68 Does not!!

Here is what originally the Silverado SS was supposed to have:

1. 6 Litre V8 w/ 485 HP and 485 Ft Lbs of Torque
2. 6 Speed Corvette Tranny
3. All Wheel Independant Suspension

with most of the same specs as it is now! But it was supposed to be a High HP Truck !!

Somebody should forward this whole thread to GM, just for kicks, not that they'd give a rat's behind
