Re: 73-87's Tire / Lift size chart (WILL IT FIT?)
EXACTLY!!!!!!!!!
Man you are on a roll today, 2 great posts that I too would love to see answered. I'll start I had 33x12.50x15 rim on my 86, no rubbing. I even hit some bad bumps off road while going for parts, no hitting or rubbing. My front end supposedly had one leaf added from a blazer to make the front sit level with the rear sintead of slightly racked like factory. Also with the 33's on and the tires straight, sitting you could see about an inch clearance on the tightest spot of the fender, the lowest corners, mainly the front was the tightest i think. I have fender flares on the truck so that takes up about a 1/4 inch all the way around the fender well, due to their thickness, no trimming or anything. Also my 33's mounted, truck weight on them and aired up to 35 psi are about 31 inches tall.

Re: 73-87's Tire / Lift size chart (WILL IT FIT?)
Maybe,if there was an actual chart made,it could have columns for the different body-types.They never came up with a chart, did they?I`ll tell what I know with common sizes(prolly already know).I have 12.50/33s on my Blazer mounted on 10" rims.I had the front springs arched and a leaf added.I guess equal to Add-A-Leafs.It`s fine for street except a turn-in and up with a drastic angle change.I just do it carefully and never rub.I drive that way anyway to be kind to my vehicles.8" rims would work fine.
I have the exact same fit on my Suburban with a 4" lift and 12.50/35s on 10" rims and 8"rims would be fine. The tires/wheels I`m running would clear fine for offroad with 2 more inches of lift: 12.50/33,10" wheels,4" lift 12.50/35,10" wheels,6" lift Going to 14.50s or 12" rims would take you back to where you could rub with 4"&33s or 6"&35s.I`m not sure that 14.50s on 12" rims would require another 2" tp work at all:14.50/35 on 12" wheels might need 8"?Let`s see what others say. BTW,good move,Bigarmz

Re: 73-87's Tire / Lift size chart (WILL IT FIT?)
It is impossible to make a chart for this. I have seen it tried a hundred times. One guy will say 33s will fit with no lift, the next guy will say 33s will rub with a 4 inch lift. Actually, both of them are correct. There is too much variation in:
The actual lift heights of lift kits (they are also affected by what engine, tranny and accessories are on the truck) The spring rates of aftermarket lift springs The type of use that the vehicle sees The actual size vs. advertised size of tires (tire width and wheel width also can make a huge difference)

Re: 73-87's Tire / Lift size chart (WILL IT FIT?)
I agree but we'd like to see some options people have.
Like I have 4 inches+ clearance now and want to run like a 46 or 37, and I don't off road, however I have 33's now but they are only 31 inches tall aired up and truck on them. So I could run right now a 4 inch bigger tire, but tires go 1/2 inch taller since they are round, basically that should mean an 8 inch or more tire bigger. Basically what I mean if people don't understand is not only does it get closer to the body, but only half it's difference does, the other raises the axles off the ground. Look at it this way, with my 31 inch 33's you have 15.5 inches going upwards above the axle if you will, and 15.5 going downwards from the axle. In conclusion one inch taller tire in measurement meaning a 34 or 32 inches actual installed height, would equal 1/2 inch closer or 1/2 inch more in the wheel wells, with the same rim configuration. Hope that's not too tech. or confusing.

Re: 73-87's Tire / Lift size chart (WILL IT FIT?)
My truck is just a stock 79 3/4 ton, but I have 285/75/16's on '06 HD wheels, and there is a ton of clearance and absolutely no rubbing. Does anyone know what I might be able to get under there with a 4 in lift?
By the way, bigarmzz, you have some nice trucks, I hope you have a big enough shop for all of them. |

Re: 73-87's Tire / Lift size chart (WILL IT FIT?)
I am going to attempt to stuff 37x12.50R17 PC Xtreme All Terrains on mine, with 6" BDS suspension on 17x9" rims. It currently has 35" BFG A/Ts on it. I think for an extra 2" of tire diameter, with my clearance and the narrow rims I have it cleared ok.
(don't worry, I have already regeared)

Re: 73-87's Tire / Lift size chart (WILL IT FIT?)
THere is a chart that has already been printed it was in the Petterson's 4wheel drive mag, I have a copy at home I will take a look and see if I can find it. It out lines all of the tire sizes and what will need to be changed, lifts, steering arms, brake lines, you name it. I recently moved so I will have to do some digging.
In the mean time here is a lillte info I found on the net. http://www.ramblerman.com/blazer/techinfo.htm |
