Is it Sacrilege??????????
I'm doing a frame off on my 72 and I am really considering going back with a 70 grill and bumper. I have noticed that as I look at pics of trucks I really like the 70 grill. Would it be a crime to use the wrong front end? Will I get tired of having to explain that it is a 72 but has a 70 grill???

I personally get turned off if the trucks sheet metal does not match the year of the truck, but if you are doing it to make yourself happy, do it. It can always be changed back. If you are goint to try to sell it this way, you might want to think about it before you do it.
Kind of like this truck. It is suppose to be a 68, but has a 69-70 front end. I don't care how nice the truck might be, I would not be interested. It just makes me think that the thing is pieced together. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=1849419642

Who would know it wasn't a 70 unless you told them. The only thing that would give it away is the bolt pattern the wheels have.
But then how would anyone know it wasn't a 70 thats been updated unless you tell them. Heck, just do what you want and don't tell anybody. |

I have a '71-'72 bumper on my '69 (I like lights--lots of 'em), and it looks pretty cool. Your situation would be similar.

It's your beast. When I built my 68 step side, I found a perfect 67 front clip, and then shaved the side markers in the steps. Also put a 72 front bumper on it.( I like the lights too!!) Some people prefer all origanal parts, but most people just look for a solid rust free truck. But now I like the side markers, use 85-96 full size van side markers and they are low profile and light up very good.

I like the 70 grill and bumper. I want to eliminate the lights in the bumper and run just the ones in the grill. Isn't the 70 bumper solid (with no light holes)?

It would probably be even better if you got a grill from a 70 GMC. I'm driving around with a bed/tailgate from a 68 Chevy. People see the GMC in the front and Chevrolet in the back. Talk about confusion. I bet if I took the hood letters off I could tell everybody about my rare 4 headlight optioned Chevy.

Correct, Chevy '70 and older have no light holes.
I'll be putting a '69 GMC front clip on a '70 chevy Longhorn...do what you want. It's your rig. If you can...hold onto the correct pieces, in case teh next owner don't think like you. |
