starter/wiring ?

I currently have an 88 engine and starter in my 69. The starter has a 2 stud solenoid, 1 batt wire and 1 start wire. The original 69 is wired for a 3 stud starter solenoid. I should be able to buy a 3 stud solenoid to go on my 88 starter right to match the wiring?
Also the white wire coming from the firewall connector toward the starter looks like a resistor type wire. Is it? I have an HEI dist now so I'll need a solid 12 volts so this wire will have to be replaced all the way from the firewall connector? Or is there an easier way? Thanks.

Re: starter/wiring ?

Easiest way to wire the HEI is to run a 12 ga. from unfused ignition on the fuse block to the distributor. Then you don't need the extra stud on the solenoid, and you get rid of the resistor wire. The old 18 ga wire isn't big enough to power the HEI at higher rpm.
