New exhaust! 40 series delta + walker cat = *Homer Simpson drool sound*
Wow- all I can say. I always stuck with 50 series mufflers for fear of the 40 series being too loud for everyday driving and road trips. I had to kick myself to finally give a 40 series delta flow a chance in the Burb. Unbelievable. The sound is so awesome, but it is still nice and quiet cruising... I found myself gunning it at stop lights and giving it some gas to get out of OD on the highway just to hear that sound again.
If anyone kicks around the 40 series/50 series argument, just go with the 40 series, you won't regret it. To top it off, the guy installing my exhaust just installed a custom exhaust in his brothers Suburban after a big block convo. Guess what he has laying around? Almost brand new Thorley headers. Guess who is getting those headers? By the end of the week I should have a completely new exhaust headers back and 4.56s installed.

Re: New exhaust! 40 series delta + walker cat = *Homer Simpson drool sound*
I have been running Flowmaster 40's turndown on my suburban for about two years. I decided it was time for a change. As of this morning i am running 2 22" glasspacks with 3 1/2" echo tips coming straight out the back beside my receiver hitch. Sounds good, low rumble at low rpms. I think the Flow's are going on my Nova now. Very good mufflers.

I have been using Flowmasters for years now on different vehicles. A 240Z, a 91 and 74 Chevy pickup, and now on my 78 Chevy C10. They sound the best!

Hmmm... no I don't... I have digital cameras and MP3 players, but I don't have anything that can capture audio.

I like glasspacks and have used them, but they seem to get pretty obnoxious when the material gets older and/or burns out. I stick with the baffled designs, just because they work and sound the exact same from day 1 to day 3,650.

Re: New exhaust! 40 series delta + walker cat = *Homer Simpson drool sound*
Here is a good link if you want to hear the "Super 40's" compared to a glasspack type muffler the "Hushpower" on a Chevy small block.
The video/sound links are at the bottom of the page. http://www.classictrucks.com/tech/05...ding_mufflers/ 7387chevys, The Flows are deep toned and would be more pronounced with a "street sweeper" exhaust. You will probably get a drone in the cab. The glasspacks will be louder than before but just not as deep a tone and maybe less drone. Last edited by Texasdeere; 10-03-2006 at 11:10 PM. |

If you don't mind me asking, what is your total bill gonna be for the exhaust - minus the header install and purchase. thanks.

Little pricey, but this stuff is meant to last. GREAT exhaust guy at this shop. Super welds, great job doing the hangers and the tailpipe is pretty amazing. So, figure $50 tip, $100 muffler, $200 cat, $80 tailpipe, $20 cat-muffler pipe, $10 hangers, that's $460 + $35 tax, $495, and $205 labor costs (~3 hours).

Re: New exhaust! 40 series delta + walker cat = *Homer Simpson drool sound*
I was quoted $350 for duals with glasspack type mufflers from manifold back. And that's at a very good local shop that rebuilds old chevy's. I guess adding Flowmasters might take it up to 400-425 but that's not bad for custom. I like the sound of the 40's after seeing this thread.
