When was it restored and how well was it restored. Maybe it is just me but that sounds cheap from what you said. As far as a winter vehicle I don't know how the roads are over there but if we get snow here I would preffer a 4X4.

Re: '72 c10 Worth it, for the money??
Take a close look before you buy, but that does sound like a fairly decent price if it's actually in good shape.
Drivetrains for GM's are cheap, relatively speaking, from engine to axle. Rust and crappy resto jobs or other wierd stuff done to it are not cheap in the long run. I grew up driving a 2wd in Wisconsin and did just fine. I added 400lbs of weight in the back of the bed, and ran all-terrain tires. If you do run that truck in the snow, however, it will rust at the bottoms of the fenders, the rockers, cab corners, and cab supports (unless stringent anti-rust measures are taken). Good luck! |

Re: '72 c10 Worth it, for the money??
yes as stated above^^ Winter is no problem we have owned may trucks and with the exception of having fun with the posi in the empty parking lots snow is no problem. make sure to Was the salt off as much as you can and pay close attation to the cab corners rockers and wheel wells. a good hose down once a week will keep the rust away. also if it is really clean it is worht undercoating it now while you can

Re: '72 c10 Worth it, for the money??
iit was restored recently. my friend and his father restore old cars.
im 17. and im looking at this as a daily driver. i figured an older chevy lifted would be cheaper than a new silverado or something, and look much cooler. let me know what you think |

Re: '72 c10 Worth it, for the money??
Why pay $6k for it to make it a daily driver when you can get a newer truck, probably with better options and more usable, for the same price, or cheaper?
These trucks are 35-40 years old now, and the prices for them in good condition are going to be much higher than, say, something from the late 80's or early 90's. Given, I'm in NC, so 4x4's don't draw as much cash, but I've recently seen late model (97 or so) Chevy 4x4 extended cab trucks for about $6k. Likely a much more comfortable truck for a daily driver. Not that I'm against using one of these as a daily driver, but the winter will eat that truck alive, and I think it'd be a shame.

Re: '72 c10 Worth it, for the money??
SURE IT'S WORTH THE MONEY. SHOOT A GUY ON EBAY JUST HAD ONE UP FOR AUCTION FOR $65,000 SO THIS ONE HAS GOT TO BE WORTH MORE THAN $6000 . AS FAR AS BEING DEPENDABLE FOR THE COLD NJ WINTERS... WHY HECK IT'LL START RIGHT UP AT FOURTY BELOW, HEAT YOU RIGHT OUT OF THE CAB, & GO THRU 18" OF UNBROKEN SNOW.
ASK A SILLY QUESTION & YOU'RE SURE TO GET A SILLY ANSWER. JOHN

Re: '72 c10 Worth it, for the money??
My first truck ever, a '65 Chevy, was $30. The next, a '68 I have fond memories of "restoring," or butchering, was $75.
I think somebody's showing their age!

Re: '72 c10 Worth it, for the money??
I drove my 67 for years as a daily driver and it never let me down. As far as winter driving I don't see why you would have any problem. Mine will cook you out of the cab and start way down below zero. Mine will go through snow over the bumper. The only concern would be the salt but if you aren't worried go for it. $6000 don't sound bad because there aren't many to be had in NJ.Is it 4wd? Chris

Re: '72 c10 Worth it, for the money??
Well, for what it's worth, my truck has seen Maine winters ever since 1968, and it has very very little rust. Hell, it was a plow truck for quite awhile. The cabcorners aren't much, but thats about all thats rusted. And the truck has all original sheetmetal. I'm going to use it during the winter, probably take it to the car wash once a week to get the salt off. The heater works good, too.

Re: '72 c10 Worth it, for the money??
I'm originally from Michigan, right on the Wisconsin border, and the neighboring city *loved* to use salt to the point where the roads were completely bare, all winter long. My dad's old '71 had to be patched up several times, primarily because he never washed the underside of it, I suppose. I've seen a few trucks brought from down south up there, driven for a few years in those winter conditions, and just start rotting away. The salt really loves eating up these trucks.
If you stay on it and keep everything clean, yeah, they would last forever. Undercoating seems to do a world of good, too. My first '68 was undercoated by me with driveway tar of all things, and the last time I saw it, it still wasn't rusting. I guess I'd rather just see all these old trucks fixed up and kept as classics rather than see them go through the beating of being a daily driver. For the money, he can afford to get a decent old truck *and* a beater vehicle for the winter. Mid to late 80's S-10 Blazers are a dime a dozen, and most are 4wd, for instance. Of course, they can also look really nice and are a lot of fun with a V8 conversion. Maybe it's just lose-lose for me.
