difference between 6 or 8 cyl xmember?

Ok so I have a 4X4 frame that I picked up for my next project. How can I tell if it is a straight 6 or a V8 xmember? thanks.. can You tell by the vin? CKE142Z1*****

I have a factory sb 1/2 4x4 and it has the straight across crossmember and my 67 that came with a 292 has an angled one. They both have V-8 in them

So, are you saying I should be able to use a 350 no matter what that xmember was originally?

Vin number says a 1972 1/2 ton 4x4 with V8
