Re: 79 2wd lift

Well for the rear you could use blocks, or buy some 4wd lifted rear springs only maybe.

As for the front only options I know on an independant front suspension would be bigger coil springs, maybe something off a new truck would work, or buy some extra high lift springs, jcwhitney used to have them for cars, not sure about trucks though. Also in the rear air shocks help raise it a little maybe an inch at most.

Maybe just try some big block springs in your truck with some spring spacers if nothing else.

Re: 79 2wd lift

I don't know why you want to lift a 2wd that much, but look at JC Whitney they carry leveling kits. The kits lift the front of your truck to match the height of the rear. Unless your going to a prerunner lift ($$$) I think your going to have a hard time finding one that high.

Re: 79 2wd lift

Hey man, this is Toms son,, I did the custom 4in lift made by aim industries, I also used the 3in blocks, and a 3in body lift, I was able to fit 37s under my rig,, I have some pics the truck was totaled out but you can look at the pics and get the idea. IT WAS BIG,, the kit survived the crash and I might be selling it but cant decided yet, iM TRYING to convince my dad to put it on his, but we will see, the lift was 1000$ out the door but like I said I was a custom set up, and I had to work a LOT of kinks out of it but in the end I like the kit a lot, You can only run 20in wheels unless you use Wheel spacers, But I do NOT think those are the safest for going off road in.
If my pics dont post its cuz of my Comp,, so ill have my dad add pics later.

Re: 79 2wd lift

Heavy duty coils from my local auto parts store lifted mine up so it sat level. Too bad I was planning to lower it. I was not happy when I found out that they had sold me HD springs...

Re: 79 2wd lift

My son had his front a-arm fabricated at AIM Industries with a lift using extended coil springs, I believe it was around 6 -inch or so, i know he was running over 36-inch tires on 20-inch rims. This truck was totaled last April and he's now in the process of parting it out, however the a-arm got bent since he was sent into a retaining wall. I'll see if I have a pic somewhere.

Re: 79 2wd lift

Coils will lift your truck but you will wear ball joints and tie rods faster as it puts them at an steeper angle.. also you will have little to NO droop in the suspension..

body lifts are ok, but have alot of problems associated.. adjust your steering, electrical connections, lift bumpers... etc... i prefer to stay away from body lifts...

there are advertised lifts, but they are just coils, Fabtechs kit is coils and possibly tubular control arms.. (if the ball joint mounting area is degreed then they wont wear as much)... However.. NOBODY currently sells a lift spindle, which would be the best way to go to keep proper geometery.. AIM ( )use to sell them, but quit due to little interest..

with some work you could swap ball joints (and/or control arms, i am not sure what is involved with this as i havent gotten that far yet) you could use 88-98 lift spindles...

As far as 6" of lift, you could probably get away with using 2" lift coils and a 3" body lift. Only way to get that much lift with these trucks. At this point I would rather run fiberglass fenders or the next step to have a fully custom front suspension made with coil overs. Good luck and post up pics when you finish the lift..
