Re: whch would you buy

My lift is a Skyjacker softride 4" all spring system. As far as why goes........ I think they were one of two companies that sold a lift for 69-72 chevys when I bought mine ( several years ago ).

Re: whch would you buy

my rough country lift is a heck of alot smoother then the factory suspension on my 86 k10.

I got a 4 inch lift, rear blocks though, new shocks, steering damper, sway bar drop brackets, new poly bushings, u bolts, cost me about 375 total, shipped to the door.

i want to go with all springs on this lift. i looked at the ord website and it mainly looked to me as shackle flips and what not to reuse your factory springs and mine are shot. i put a set of 33's on it and they rub lol..............

Re: whch would you buy

id go to a ord shackle flip rear
and for the front just buy some soft ride springs
brand doesnt matter too much

even if your springs are shot you can get
some from a junkyard or anywhere for
practically nothing

Re: whch would you buy

I agree Id also go with a shakle flip in the rear, allows for better flexiblity, better ride quality.. than most lift springs. just my 2 cents

Re: whch would you buy

I replaced the (1971) 1/2 ton with (1976) 3/4 ton axels and springs. I recurved the leaves to fit the factory shackels and naturally got a 4" lift. I'm now looking for another couple inches and don't know if I want body lift or suspension.

Re: whch would you buy

i placed a skyjacker 6" softride under my 70. front springs and rear blocks. other than the axle wrap i experienced in the rear from the blocks i highly recommend it, no pun intended. great ride.

Re: whch would you buy

I have ORD's shackle flip on my 69 K20 and I did not like the way it moved the rear axle off center. Doesn't matter now since I have the flatbed, but did look odd when I had the factory bed installed. I like the shackle flip other than that. I sure have read good things online about BDS but have no personal experience.

Re: whch would you buy

hmmm... i was just about to go shackle flip myself, but throwing the axle a little off center would prolly look pretty funny in a 104" wb blazer...

does the skyjacker only come with blocks, or can you get rear springs, too?
imo, it sounds as though you might be happier with rear springs opposed to blocks in the rear. i'd thing that would adversely affect suspension geometry.

Re: whch would you buy

Skyjacker is a great lift, but they are expensive. You get what you pay for though.Skyjacker is a spring lift, too
I got a $625 lift from Rough Country. It was 6" lift in back and 4" in front. It came with everything but steering components.I bought the new springs as I hate block lift kits and my springs were cracked. They have overload springs on them too,I will never need them though.I considered the shackle flip but didnt want the axle moved forward.I might get some pics taken this weekend with the new 35s on..

Re: whch would you buy

My rough country kit isn't as bad as people have all said. It's not so rough its a kidney killer. I added a shackle flip in the rear and didn't have the wheel move away from the center of the wheel opening.

Keep in mind if the rear axle does move forward during a shackle flip, you can always add a zero rate and move it back an inch.

One big positive on the shackle flip is the ride quality. That flat spring rides nice and flexes a lot better than a highly arched spring. Personally, I think running the flip with the rough country front springs evened it out some. Meaning the ride is a lot less harsh than what it could have been running 4 rc springs.

Re: whch would you buy

I`ll let Meathead chime in on what he ended up doing, but I`ll say he ain`t happy with it out back.
I used TuffCountry for my 6" springs on my Highlander.I`m very pleased from install to ride.Cost was good, too.
I got the braided 6-8" brake hoses from Skyjacker. The rear hose and crap fitting/adaptors are on the shelf. It came with female ends at both ends, why? You need a male end at the t-block.I couldn`t find a male/male fitting anywhere, even hyraulics shops. The t-block requires adaptors to fit the axle brake hoses. That set-up,if it even worked, would have more joints in it than Amsterdam. Not my idea of a safe brake system.I measured what length I needed and called Inline Tube.I told them what fittings were required and they provided the proper t-block.While I was at it I ordered the axle hard-lines in stainless. It all bolted right up.If you can`t get the front lines seperate, just get those from Inline Tube. The Skyjacker hoses are nearly $100 for 1/2 of what works...$.02

Re: whch would you buy

oh what the hell, i think the whole kit sucks actually. the font springs where fine but the front shocks look like the are completely compressed just sitting there and the rear springs moved the tire forward some, which i hate. and the damn truck isnt level. and i paid 1100 for this kit. i will never buy superlift again. everytime i call them, which has been alot, they just say well we've never had a problem before. my oem springs are 52" eye to eye and the new ones are 48". i havent put a load in it yet in which i am scared to do.

Re: whch would you buy

That sucks Keith,I am glad I didnt have that trouble with my rough country lift.It did raise the back about 10 inches when it was first on,since then it has sunk down to 6" lift in the back.

Re: whch would you buy

i have a rough country lift on my 72 swb 4x4 and it went on perfectly with no issues except for the half a$$ stainless hoses i ordered from skyjacker for it. i just thought for the K20 i would spend a little more (almost double) for the superlift and get a good lift since it is going to be a driver. and if it rides like all of my other experiences i have had with it i think id rather push it.
