1996 5.7L Vortec fuel problems
96 GMC Sierra 5.7L 4x4
A few days ago I was driving down the highway and the engine just suddenly quit. No sputtering, hesitation, nothing...it just quit. I thought the fuel pump sounded a little weak so I replaced the pump and the filter. Burped the line but still nothing. Before replacing the pump I checked to see if there was good spark...there is. Just checked the fuel pressure...the highest it would go was 12psi. This is a new pump...could it be bad or is there something else causing the low pressure? There are no leaks anywhere. |

Re: 1996 5.7L Vortec fuel problems
You need around 65 psi. 12 is not gonna make it. Fuel filter? Blow trhough open fuel lines wir compressed air? I would try finding a blockage first, before trying to return a fuel pump. Try removing fuel filter and running fuel pump to see if blocked between pump and filter- prolly not. Then move up stream and see if the pressure changes.

I am going to have to agree with edman. check your fuel filter. the number one cause of fuel pump failure is the failure to change your fuel filter on time. let us know!!!
