I can see now!

I recently upgraded my headlights to a HID conversion kit, like on the Escalade and many other luxury vehicles. No colored bulbs happening here! I chose the real deal that comes with the ballasts and everything. I love them! Here are a few pics.

I like the look *AND* I surely hope you got the correct bulbs with the part of the bulb that faces downward blacked out, or else you're going to be one of those buttholes that drives around blinding everyone around you

While it's cool and produces more light and all, the glare for oncoming traffic that is caused by putting an HID bulb into a stock reflector/housing for a non-HID vehicle is atrocious.

(PS - post some more pics of your truck!)

I picked up the HID conversion kit from one of my dealers over in Houston when I was there working two weeks ago. I picked up a set of the composite round headlights from my local dealer. Other than that, they require an 8awg power and ground lead from the battery, since the ballasts require more than what the original wiring supplies when they first turn on.

They are not HID bulbs! It is the complete system. I could not agree with you more about those idiots that do not take the time to correctly aim their headlights. And yes, they are aimed down and inward.

So many people do not take the time to correctly adjust their headlights when they get their vehicles back from bodyshop repairs. That too is annoying!

I look at this as a safety equipment upgrade. Just like when I changed the seat beats out to three point harness (shoulder belts). Or, changing out the brakes to larger SSBC disc brakes and upgrading the rear drums to discs in the process. Even though I do not drive this truck a lot, I want to be safe when I get the chance to enjoy taking it out for a spin.

FYI: On Saturday October 21st from 3pm until midnight, I will have the truck on display at a show in the Trademark Building of the MS Fairgrounds in Jackson, MS. For those that are interrested in getting a closer look.

Wait - why are you running HID ballasts if they are not HID bulbs? It's a standard bulb with an HID ballast? I'm confused.

Stop getting snippie! Some people call the cheesey colored headlight bulbs "HID" bulbs. That is why I referred to them as a HID conversion kit. The kit includes dual element (low beam and high beam) H4 bulbs.

I hope that clears it up a bit!

you'll know if they're not aimed right, or too bright, or too glary; people will flash thier brights at you thinking you have yours on.

for a while I had 65/100 bulbs in my tuck. about 8 flashes in one night, I changed them to 55/100's and didn't get flashed.
but my Acura has the HID's and they're bright as hell, and I've never had anyone flash thier brights at me.

I dig them in your truck though.

If I remember reading right over at VW Vortex, the Acura cars are either projectors (the fisheye lens things) or, if they use a stock reflector like our trucks, the bottom of the bulb (pointing down) has opque blackish grey material on them to keep them from shining against the bottom of the reflector, which would beam it up, causing upward glare for oncoming drivers.

Even in pointing the stock reflector downward, you are still directing the light upwards, only instead of going over the driver's head, it's going right into his face

They look great, ought to improve your vision at night dramatically. I just ordered a pair of Hella H4 headlights for my truck. They are aren't HID but they say they should make a big diffedrence. The good thing is its just a plug and run deal. Supposed to cut the top of the beam off on low beam so it doesn't glare the oncoming traffic.

I have been looking at HID kits and whats on Ebay is running from $139-$400ish. I have no idea of what to look for in a kit. I'm not trying to get out cheap, I just want to do it right the first time. If you have any suggestions or pointers feel free to shoot me a PM or reply in this thread. Thank you Thank you!

But they do have great conversations some times, and I was ignorant about HID's till I went over there and someonse started posting night time pictures of what a proper stock-reflector HID setup looks like oncoming, and what an improper (no masking the lower half of the reflector) setup looks like. It was drastic, and I can relate now that I've seen it on the highway enough times.
