Rear air bag mounting

I'm mounting my rear air bag and have the one 3/8" bolt that goes through the trailing arm. Is that enough to hold it? Seems like there should be more.

Re: Rear air bag mounting

I want to start with two firestone bags in the back.

Can you take some pics of your project? That would be great!

Re: Rear air bag mounting

Is it possible just to remove the rear springs and replace them airbags with little modification and keep the front springs? Are there kits for this mod?

Thats what I'm working on too. Turns out my springs are producing different hieghts from softness or size. I'll fill mine with a air compressor for now.

Yep. You don't need a kit. Two bags, fittings, air line, and a couple of shrader valves to fill 'em. <---Less than $200 -Chris

i see in other threads that some bags "install" easier then others.
Do you need to take the bed off to drill out the holes?
Does anybody have a template as to where to drill the holes for Firestone 2600 bags?

Cheers,

Re: Rear air bag mounting

The 3/8" bolt is fine, just make sure you use grade 8 hardware.

67chevemall: For the template, I just took a piece of paper and traced the holes from the bag, then cut them out and mocked it up on the frame with a white marker. It was easy to drill the smaller mounting holes for the bag, the port hole (1") was the PITA.

Re: Rear air bag mounting

You're better using 2,400 lb. bags in the rear ... use the 2,600 lb. bags in the front.

Re: Rear air bag mounting

2-2400 bags are on order. Bed has to come off for sure.
My torn nails will lower her and the air pump will make her stiff.
Can't wait.

what is the best way to drill a fn 1" hole through hard steel?
?

Re: Rear air bag mounting

The bed doesn't have to come off. I did the rear on mine w/ the bed on. You're gonna spend way more time removing & replacing the bed than it will take to mount the bags and plumb the rear.
As for the best way to drill a 1" hole? I started with small bits and worked my way up, also used a unibit, and a die grinder. It takes patience more than anything.

Which vendor, and which bag? Firestone seems to have a bunch of em, Is there a kit by chance, or do I need to adapt a latemodel kit?

http://www.suspensionconnection.com/...tion/to=r.html

Not to hijack the thread, but I want to bag the rear only also on my 69 C10, with something that will have good load carrying capacity when aired up, and be able to drop the back about 3" when I'm not.
