Before and After: '72 K-20

I bought this truck in Utah and had it trucked here to PA.............Overall it was in better shape than what could have been found here on a 4x4 chassis, but not as great as I expected a western truck to be. Bought it in early March........Drove it home, and to one farm machinery auction in late March because I needed the 4x4 to get out of the field where it was held............Came home and tore it apart the next day. Here is how it looked then.

I still have to wire in the rear lights and plug for my trailer lights and bolt the reciever on it, but other than that its finished. I put this one together to use it, but I almost don't want to..............I took these today

That looks great! What color is it? It looks real close to my truck. The jr west coasts look much better than the other mirrors too!

Re: Before and After: '72 K-20

The blue is a current code for GM vehicles..........Don't know the specific number at the moment(Two stage from S-W), but I can find it should anyone want it.

I also thought about going to steel, but I think once I polish these aluminum rims I'll keep them...........They look better now then they did on the white truck.

Truck was originally powered by a 350, but had a 454 smog motor when I bought it. It was stock other than a Edelbrock Carb and didn't impress me. Considering that this truck will be run on short runs on the farm, and I wanted longevity, I reverted back to our old friend.............The inliner Took a nice 250 we had that was in great shape and added a 500 CFM Edelbrock 4 brl, Clifford intake and headers, and built a PS bracket for it. So far I am tickled with it...........I got some underhood shots, but I had to build a new mount to run the 14" stock GM air cleaner housing, and I don't have that piece painted yet............Here is the only good one at the moment. It is dusty in the picture, but you get the idea.

In that last underhood shot you missed the bottom of the steering column and the intermediate shaft you need to put the gun down and step away

Nah, it looks better than any of my rigs right now

Re: Before and After: '72 K-20

I love it looks like a great work truck from here. I had a 68 LNB with 292/4spd that was the best ranch truck ever. I've been thinking of puting a 292 with a TBI on my 69 4X4 Suburban was the change over a pain ? what parts did you have to change other than building that P/S Bracket ?!?

Nice looking truck!
One of the things I like most about these old trucks-
Is using them for what they were built for-
Daily use!

250 bolted right in the stock location because it doesn't have the off-set motor mount on the passengers side like the 292. Only change I had to make was building the adapter to run the larger air cleaner. Rest of the parts bolted right on. Haven't got it on the road 100% yet, but it drives nice. Bought a Clifford intake anticipating turbo'ing it later............But I've found the Clifford isn't exactly the best choice for a stock engine. Hopefully, once I swap some metering rods she'll run better.

Besides, I don't want to get cow SH*T in it until I have to...............

Here are the only ones I have of the interior................I'll get some more "NEW" pictures when I get it out again. Hopefully today as the metering rod kit will be here and I can tune it right.

Here is a picture of the interior I took today............Not everything is new, repaint, or 100% stock, but for a DD it is tons better than what I am used to in these trucks
