Re: new header, anyone tried them?

I bought a chrome alternator from them. Good alt. - good people to deal with.
I don't know anything about the headers though. I see it says they know that they do not work well on a chevy car or truck.

Many have asked what vehicles do these fit. Most people that purchase these, have knowledge of there application. We do know these headers are very popular on classic custom built roadsters with small block Chevy engines. We are quite sure these do not work well on your every day Chevy car or truck. These headers run very close to the motor mount pad. I'm sure that those running these headers have special motor mounts, or they may not even mount the engine, using the mount pad on the block. We have heard that some trim the motor mounts to accomadate these. We just don't know much about their use. One thing is for sure we have sold several hundred sets , and seldom here of problems.

Re: new header, anyone tried them?

99.999% of exhaust header leaks are due to poor installation techniques and/or crappy gaskets

Re: new header, anyone tried them?

Those don't fit '73-'87 Chevy trucks either without very significant motor mount modifications. Street rod only, I suspect.

Re: new header, anyone tried them?

So just curious will stainless steal headers resist discoloration or will they still look pretty crappy after a few thousand miles?

Re: new header, anyone tried them?

the trick to installing headers so that they don't leak is to bolt the headers up to the motor and bolt the reducers up to the flange and then weld the exhaust to the flange....and use BLUE locktite on the header bolts...i can't remember what the number of the locktite bottle is, but it resists hydrolicing from the oil in the bolt holes if there is any.... and when you hang your exhaust make sure that itdoesn't pull on the reducer before you weld it....i put headers on my truck almost 2 years ago and haven't had a problem with them since....i would also sugest that you try a normal header instead of a block hugger as when you hit bumps and such it will pull down on the reducer and have a better chance for a leak

Re: new header, anyone tried them?

I got these from them http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMEWN%3AIT
I can't attest to fitment yet, but they said will fit, so we'll see. They are pretty nice for the money, I also got a 100amp chrome i wire from them too and it is very nice and the best price I could find @ $76. Shipping was REALLY SLOW ON THE HEADERS, like about a month, so I suggest you verify that they are in stock beofre purchasing.

Re: new header, anyone tried them?

Just get Headmans and forget the stainless. Stainless will work harden with time and crack. Looks good and won't corrode but will crack. There was a Jeep body available(still is maybe ) that was stamped out of stainless and it was a real problem with cracks. The bumps twists and vibration flexes the material and the result is work hardened stainless that will crack. I am skeptical!

Re: new header, anyone tried them?

I like them very nice might have to try some. I dont think the stainless will wear that much unless you drive it a ton and have them on for many many years. But dont know for sure.

Re: new header, anyone tried them?

I got the same ones as Byrd but haven't finished the engine yet. Also to the reverse rotation high volume water pump. Shipping was ok don't remember how long but wasn't bad.

Re: new header, anyone tried them?

as far as AC mounts you use the stock frant mounts then you either fab a rear one(very easy) ior purchase a rear one from someone like hooker headman etc
headman headers fit real good yes but uf you lower your truck they hang way low under the frame /i had a 4/3 drop and speedbumps and driveways they were scrapin on a very regular basis

Re: new header, anyone tried them?

I found it interesting in the ad for the cermic coated headers like byrd has they say they would never recomend stainless steel headers in there shop. But yet they sell stainless and recomend them over ceramic in the ad for the stainless?
