84 Chevy 1/2 ton Engine Swap Questions

I really need someones help. I bought an 84 Chevy 2wd with an inline six and I just recently finished up blowing the motor. I have has a low mile 350 from a 92 Suburban on the stand for a while and it's ready to be put in. Any tips would be great, such as the six cylinder stands. Everything looks different than the Chevy truck with the 350 I sold a couple years back. Motor mounts are confusing me. Also, will the 79 HEI distributer that I have work in this swap. I have the complete exhaust, 86 and up intake and carb so that's not an issue. I'm learning but it's slow.

Re: 84 Chevy 1/2 ton Engine Swap Questions

I had a 76 straight 6 truck and dropped in a 350. The mounts on the frame were the same, didn't need to move thoose or anything, just got some factory motor mounts on the engine side for a v8, bolted them to the block and dropped the motor in.

The trans/bellhousing all bolted up fine, just used another starter(had an old cast iron bellhousing from a 60 some model truck, switched to alum. off 70 some) used a v8 flywheel, reused the clutch kit from the straight 6. if yours is an auto only thing there might need changed is the flexplate. We even reused the radiator, but I'd reccomend a 3 core.

Now is it a v8 hei distributor? What year is the block or heads? I don't think pre 86 headw work with 86+ intake, or vise versa or something like that. I'll wait on your reply maybe I can help more. You need a regualr v8 distributor, manifolds or headers for exhaust, and motor mounts(only the ones that botl on the motor blockNOt the frame motor mounts)

I used some 90 dollar dynomax headers on mine when I swapped.

Throttle cable will be too long, have to either loop it or buy a v8 throttle cable. i think I even used the straight 6 alternator, all the wiring is the same and works I do beleive.

Re: 84 Chevy 1/2 ton Engine Swap Questions

Thanks for the reply. I have a 1992 engine, I know someone with a distributer from a 1988 tbi Camaro v-8, so that should work.
