Kickdown search..

After Googling for days, stops at Trany shops and even a trip to the local GM dealer I still am at a loss. Who (if anyone) makes the carb mount style of Turbo 400 Kickdown switch? I've been told I could repair mine but I'd just asoon find a new one. Thanks for any tips!

Re: Kickdown search..

Not to hijack or anything, but can anyone tell me which wire goes to which terminal on this bad boy. Mine seems to have come unplugged somewhere down the line.

Re: Kickdown search..

On mine, I hooked the wire from the cowl to the terminal marked b+ (toward the plunger I think). The other wire when to the trans. Hopefully someone will verify it for us.

Re: Kickdown search..

What is wrong with yours? You shoud get a connection with the plunger depressed. Be aware that you need the part that fits the carb linkage to engage the switch. That is the hardest to find. 13 years of searching junk yzards has only yielded 1. I have found many switches but only 1 "ear".

I had found a online web site for corvettes that had that piece however I lost the link. I will see if I can dig it up.

Re: Kickdown search..

Wow! You guys are seriously good! Since I've still got front end work to do and an elusive intake manifold to find, I guess I’ll repair my old one for now and deal with it when other things are less pressing. THX!

Re: Kickdown search..

Does anyone have any info on the pedal mounted one? where does it get power and how is the wire routed to the tranny?

Re: Kickdown search..

The pedal mounted one is 71-72 for cable style. The switch is used from 71 thru at least mid eighties on trucks and cars. Should not be difficult to find in a wrecking yard.

Power comes from fuse block(power when running) to switch. Switch to tranny through the firewall. Tranny wire is hard to find in decent shape as it usually gets greasy and brittle from heat.

Re: Kickdown search..

Tim - I don't know about the wire harness - check with GMC Paul or another vendor. The switch might be available from GM. Lokar also makes a custom aftermarket switch.

67sss, I guess I should check my own threads more often. I got my switch working; dumped it in a coffee can and squirted it w/ WD40 everytime I walked by while pushing on the plunger. Works fine now (I hope). Still need the ear, tho. If you want to sell your switch, let me know. This whole thing has left me so gun shy I wouldn't mind having a back-up. ET
