Exclamation New Custom LED taillight inserts/New LED Custom Side markers/Pictures added

Ok I'm making custom LED inserts. These are not like the common cheap 1157 LED replacements. These are ultra bright board that runs the full length of the lense. They are very brillant looking, exspecially with clear lenses. Can be made with 120, or 216 LEDs per side.

This is what I need. I need to demo these on a Show truck that will be doing a photo shot for magazine artical in the near future. If I find a nice truck, I will give free tailight inserts, front parking light inserts, and possibly back up inserts.

Anyone intrested in these, and pictures, e-mail me @ blazer2wd1972@hotmail.com

I will be selling these also in limited #s for now. I'm going to be starting a small custom accessories shop soon.

Cool

Nice!!! I wonder how they'd look behind red lenses...I'm just not a fan of clear tails on anything other than maybe a black, silver, or white truck...but those are nice and BRIGHT!!!!

Isn't there a new Cadillac with LED-array tails? They're sweet looking...they stick out, partially because there's no 'fade' from on to off or dim to bright...

Impressive!

I'm running bulbs from Ledtronics, which are better (more LED's) than APC's replacment LED bulbs.

Yours are awesome, and are the benchmark for LED taillights. I'm fascinated by Cadillacs' taillights, and the instant-on, instant-off operation. I believe using LED's for signal lighting is the greatest safety item since Henry Ford talked Edison into creating a dual filament bulb. The instantaneous lighting that is created by applying voltage to them is eye-catching. We need that.

Let us know the price when you have it nailed-down. You have the right idea, including tail lights and markers.

For an additional idea, what about making the side markers a dual function, i.e., add turn signaling to them, as well as the side makers? This would serve to help in traffic, assuming some of us actually drive our trucks!

Arrow Thanks

Yes I came up with this from new high dollar cars. I have plans to make bowtie billet aluminum LED side markers also. These tail light insert look good with red lenses also. I'll get pictures soon.
216 LEDs per side will be awsome, I haven't made a set yet but I can just imagine. Just 120 per side are head turning.

These inserts will go for 120.00 a pair. Includes a heavy duty flasher. These are hand made. I can make back-up inserts also. I'm making a set for my blazer. But unfortunately white LEDs are very expensive, but for some cost isn't a issue when it comes to the brillance of LEDs.

Also I'm going to make 67/68, 69/70, 71/72 front parking light inserts.

These will be limited in supplies at first tell I get in full swing.

I'd really like to find a Bad project truck to demo and advertize these on.

I glued up my colored Lucite with a sheet of clear prismatic Lucite (looks like the stuff you see in office fluorescent lights that disperses the light). It takes FAR fewer LEDs to get good light output and they look less "dotty."

Also, Reumster, good work on the lights. I know cameras can get fooled by intense light but they look a little on the pink side (loike >660nm wavelength). Have you looked for a more red-orange LED to use like in the 626nm range? I've built LED boards for my truck-- brake/tail in the rear, and am working on a white-light board for my amber front signals.

For the prismatic stuff, try Hone Depot. They have the fluorescent light inserts for just a few bucks for a 2' x 4' sheet. That should last you a lifetime! As for the colored sheet, unfortunately most plastics houses are afraid of it sitting around too long so they want you to buy a whole sheet :-( I just happened to have some red from a motorcycle project years ago that I bought from the "scrap" bin at Cadillac Plastics in Dallas. I've been whittling pieces off that one for years and now it's finally almost all gone. So next taillight project that comes along means I'll be hunting just like you are.

The LEDs I actually bought from a guy on ebay. They just happened to be the ones I had been looking for for a while and he had thousands of them posted. Just keep your eye out on ebay for the high-brightness ones.

626nm is the wavelength of light being emitted-- basically color.

In this image, they're using micrometers so just shift the decimal place over 3 places... so .7um is 700nm. You can see that the visible spectrum is pretty small, but there is a lot of color in there. The 660nm bulbs are so red that CAN look pink when lit. 626's are just more orange-red and more closely resemble the yellower incandescent light from bulbs like the 1157 you probably have now. OK, long and boring blather off for now...

Yep

Yes they are 660nm I like the color they produce. I had a set of 1157 LEDs from AutoZone they where orange color, looked like crap. So I wanted to stay away from the orange spectrum. But I may try 640nm next.

I get my LEDs from http://www.eled.com/

XXL drop me a e-mail at blazer2wd1972@hotmail.com I have a few questions for you

Talking 216 LEDs

I don't have any made right now, but I'm in the process. But I can only imagine, adding close to 100 LEDs will be breathtaking. Allthough adding 100 LEDs makes a soldering nightmare!

Yeah

The blank space is where the stock bulb inserts, but when it's 100% done, ready to install, it'll have a 194 LED replacement bulb(these feature 4 LEDs in a cluster), so the Custom LEDs will plug into the stock harness.

cool tail lights

keep us posted on the progress. They look great. That is what i was thinking about doing for the suburban tail side and front lights. I will be do some changes of the rear tail lights on the burb so that the factory lenses sit flush with the body like the pickup lenses.

The side markers look good, too. Could the 194 replacement LED's be made to function with the turn signals? I'm thinking that it would be a small rewire. Would they be bright enough? Seems the automotive industry is moving toward bodyside indicators, although the location of the "new car" indicators is more toward the front fender, just ahead of the door opening.

Good stuff.
