vin number help

I just bought a 72 cheyenne super. I have bought several vin number books to decode my vin and cannot get it to make any sense. I hope you can help me. Here it is. CCE142F371977.

Thanks,

Texas Mark

Re: vin number help

in 72 they add the C to show that it was a chevy, and GMC's started with a T I think.

Re: vin number help

yep, and gump was reading a bad decoder there too.
Step side/fleetside can NOT be decoded via the VIN on chevy trucks of this era.
As I directed mark in responce to his PM on this... check out the decoder on our site here http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/Chevyear.html This one is dead nuts accurate.
Too many ppl coppied LMC's bum decoder onto there websites.

.
Andy,
While we are on the subject, does the vin show any info about being a lwb or swb? I know the model # shows l/swb, but not sure about the VIN itself.

Re: vin number help

just the model number decodes the swb / lwb issue.

and also the vin is not going to say if it was a step side or a fleetside from what's posted...the number 4 in this vin listed only tells you it came with a box...not what kind of box....only the model number will tell you if its a fleetside or stepside box.

from whats listed in the thread so far the model number should be CE10934
