from Colorado (sorry kinda long)
Hi from Colorado.
ok I guess i'll give some back ground on me. At 18 my dad gave me a 71 chevy lwb with a 250/4 speed 2wd. It had alot of cancer issues! the floor board under the gas tank was gone! just a big hole! Both sides of the floor board had pretty bad rust as did the rockers, cab corners(weren't there),wheel wells and the wood bed floor was original and rotted. After driving the truck for a couple years the clutch went out and not really wanting a manual anyway it was traded for a powerglide I had laying around from another project. The pg didn't last long and was replaced with a th350. A few months later the 250 started smoking alittle so I found and rebuilt a 67 327 with 305 heads, flat top pistons, performer intake, cam and carb. Ashamed to admit the body was full of bondo but "looked" straight. When I was 19 my dad picked up a 69 lwb. The body was super clean! The interior was pretty gutted but rust free. When he bought it, it had a "fresh"350/350 in it. Well two weeks after he bought it the motor started blowing white creamy fluid out of the breather in the valvecover!?! You guessed it, the 350 was" fresh" a couple hundred thousand miles before! Number one cylinder had ruptured (you could touch the piston from the lifter valley) into the lifter valley. Disgusted and extremely upset about it he parked it in the back yard. I offered to buy it from several times to receive a look like I was about to be killed, so since he refused to even talk about it I dropped the subject. Eventually dad got tired of it sittin so he told me he'd sell it to me for what he paid(1200.00)! SCORE! But when it came time to pay him he told me to forget about it and just take it! DOUBLE SCORE! A complete disassemble ensued along with alot of stuff found that wasn't known about! All the sheet metal was inded rust free but the frame several inches in front of the front cab mount had been welded (hacked) back together, all the wireing had been butchered, and the tranny mount had been welded to the frame. After much dliberation it was decided to use a 75 camero subframe I had in storage to replace the front of the frame. The camero sub frame if cut properly will slide over the truck frame! After doing the front of the frame and painting it ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I found out my first son was on the way! the truck came to a screeching halt and sat for 2 years. During the 2 year break I had seen an 70 extended cab and loved it. So I found another cab cut both apart and started putting them together. About 2/3 of the way through the cab guess what I found out,,,,,,,,,,,, 2 things,,,, 1. stretching a truck cab is a boat load of work,,,and 2. my second son was on the way,,,,,,,,,,,, and again the truck came to screeching halt. Well 7 years later I am starting to work on my truck again. I have found out the cab is screwed after a heavy snow dropped a huge branch on it and trashed the whole thing. On a good note I hadn't stretched the frame yet, and I found a 70 lwb locally for $350.00 so things can start to progress as a 70 instead of a 69. At this point this is the plan,,,, the front end will flip with a normally functioning hood, suicide the doors, tilt bed with a solid cover opening normally, shave the body (the bed and fenders are already done), 1 piece windows, I've seen ALOT of great trucks and projects on here, not all I would do but great work none the less. Thanks for having the site available. Frank

Welcome to the board Frank! Where in Colorado are you? I am in the Fort Collins area, and there are several of us on here in Northern Colorado, a bunch in the metro area, and some in the Springs and Pueblo area too.

Well, we are only about 2 hours apart then. Hopefully some day we can have a big get-together in the Denver area. Maybe at ChevyDude's new shop!!
