a question of fitment 73-80 fenders on 81-87

Is it possible to put 73-80 fenders and hood on a 81-87 cab/coresupport and leave the 81-87 headlights and grille?

Anything is possible with enough effort. Will it bolt up? No!

You can put the 73-80 front clip on the 81-87 cab but you will need to change the core support, mod the cowl for the early style hood hinges, and trim the frame rails for the bumpers to clear....

What about using 81-up bumper......will that get around trimming the frame rails?
Thanks

the 81-up bumper is peaked in the middle, and is slanted towards the bottom. The 73-80 bumper is neither of those. You can shim the botom bolts, and the bumper will stick out a little more to get around cutting the frame ends.

You can't easily leave the headlights and grille of the 81-87 because the 73-80 fenders and core support are wider. You'd have gaps and it wouldn't just bolt up.

Are you gonna run the 73 to 80 front clip on your 84 cab for old red?

Most definately. I do not like the 81+ frontend at ALL. They are narrower, slopier, rounder. I like the big, square, unaerodynamic brick wall look of my 1980 grille and front end.

Re: a question of fitment 73-80 fenders on 81-87

I may be wrong but I think the 81-87 bumper will rub the fenders on a 73-80 front end . The 81-87 trucks are a little narrower at the front of the fenders. I guess if you shimmed it away from the fenders ,it might clear . Frank
