It can be done.. I put one in my 65 and yes I know that is different then the earlier models. I welded two nuts on the bottom of the column so I could use the stock mount and run the stock hand brake. You will have to figure out the wires as the plugs will be differnt. it can be done but it will not just bolt in. I have two columns downstairs and dought I will even use one of them. I am using one from an 88 suburban. It has the wiper switch in the column and I can use the cruise control also if I want too. I will be using pretty much all the wiring and computer from the 88 also..

I know where your at. Anyway, I'll have pics soon. I just found my misplaced camera...I have a 1 1/2 year old that likes to walk everything around the house and put away stuff.

Now back to the columns....what about the couplers...are they the same ??

If you use a van column you will need to get the lower half that connects to the steering box. I used a collapsalble steeing shaft from a 92 Impala with a u joint where it connected to the column... It is not hard to do... If I use the 88 column I might put both columns I have on e bay or something.. Then again I may keep them if I get another project...

Re: Van column into a 63....will it work ??

I have a 65 fleetside that has a late 70's tilt column and the bearing is no good. I was hoping to replace it with one from the junkyard, which columns are the best to get? thanks for the help, abe
