AC Fan Switch
Hi Guys,
Every time I turn the ignition switch to the "on" position, the fan motor kicks on for the AC. Can the switch be cleaned? Maybe something is stuck in the switch so it can't fully turn off? The AC itself works awesome in it, it'll run you out of the truck. lol  TIA, David

The fan is always on, there really is no "totally off" position. When the fan switch is on Low, and the vent controls are turned to Off, the fan will still run at low speed.

that's not really true is it?? on what years?
on my '89 burb i don't think that is the case. I have a 4 speed fan and then the other switch is off, max ac, norm ac, hi-lo ac, heat, vent, defrost. when it's in off, it's off. |

Mine's a '77. I didn't want to believe it either, but after a quick look at the schematics, that's how it works. Don't know if that changed later on or not, though.
I seem to remember reading something on CK5 about it, something about keeping a small amount of air flowing through the heater core at all times for some reason...

I've heard it's one or the other of two reasons. One theory says it's to keep the A/C from freezing up, and the other says it's to make you buy a new truck when the original motor starts making that god-awful screeching noise.

I replaced my front fan blower motor for $16 and it only took about 4 screws and 15 minutes...
