Okay, so when I come to a stop with low fuel, the fuel sloshes away from the pump/pickup and the truck dies. I expect this to a certain extent, but this truck seems to be the worse. Is there any baffeling that anyone has seen or done to help? Or maybe foam?

are you using q-jet or a holley if you using a holley adjust the float level

Sorry, it's a 454 with the factory TBI. The fuel slosh is definitely in the tank. The needle will move an eighth of a tank or more when the tank is low.

My 89 used to do that all the time too. The problem is that your baffles are shot, so all the fuel sloshes around, which starves the fuel pump.

Real cheap option for fixing this problem is to keep the tank at least 1/2 tank full all the time. Other option is to install a new fuel tank.

ARAMP1, saw you cruizing down Santa fe between 2nd and 15th the other night.. wasnt really paying attention until I heard the tires and looked up to see a white blur go by me... still one of my favorite trucks..

That was probably me. What were you in? I usually take note of any 73-87 (91) rigs.

How do the baffles become shot? How are they attached? I figured with as bad as this is doing it, there weren't any baffles at all. They're the plastic tanks. I think I might end up stuffing them with fuel cell foam.

not to sound like a smart a$$, but why dont you just not let it get that low on fuel? I mean surely the gas stations arent that few and far between are they?

It was dark and I was in a blue 87 GMC, nothing spectacular about it to take note about... link to the pics are in my sig.. it was my wifes.. hence the cheesy cardomain name..

I generally don't, I'm just looking for a solution to something that I personally have a problem with. As a matter of fact, it's probably better on the pumps to not let them run dry. Maybe the pilot in me though, but I HATE having unuseable fuel.

To be honest, I'm not sure why they go bad, all I know is that my 89's was loose, and allowed fuel to slosh out at will. You could hear it bang into the side walls of the tank if you took a hard corner too, lol

Very interesting. Did you ever get it fixed? It doesn't bother me bad enough to drop the tank and check it out. However, if I ever need to replace the fuel pump, it's something to look into.

Nope, I never fixed it. There is no way to replace the factory baffles, so unless you can stick some sort of foam in there or something, I can't see how you could fix it without replacing it.

Mine had a steel tank, with a steel baffle pan.
