how can i make my inline 6 more powerful
anyone got any ideas of how to get more power out of my inline 6. I was thinking that I could put in a 4 barrell manifold and a 4 barrell carbeurator instead of my old 2 barrells. Any suggestions??

Re: how can i make my inline 6 more powerful
Header's would help.
Your's is probably the 250 with the integrated head, so swapping carbs won't help much. You will still have the same poorly designed intake. You could get an older separate head with the separate intake. Then add headers, intake and carb, which will liven it up alot. www.inliners.org and www.stovebolt.com are the best 6 banger sources I know of. Best bet for the $$$ is put in a 350...6 cycl;nder parts are much more expensive when your hopping up an engine.

Re: how can i make my inline 6 more powerful
Unless you are really fond of your 6, it would not be economical to spend more than $500 on it, since a v8 replacement can be had starting around that price.
I personnaly am a v8 man, but I do find it interesting when a old six is slicked up enough to surpass a stock or mild v8. Only problem is, for the same money and effort, you could have a really mean smallblock or 2.

Re: how can i make my inline 6 more powerful
yeah well that was the plan all along. once i get a bit of time and money (since i am a college student) i was goin to drop a 350 down into her. i was just wondering if it would be better to do up my I6 or go with the 350. Either way the 350 would be a lot nicer

Fixed/hopped up 6's are kool and they are different, but you have to really like them to spend the extra cash to get the power from them. I would not hesitate a minute to fix one up. The sound a of beefed up six is fabulous!!!.

Re: how can i make my inline 6 more powerful
Those sites are really cool and that patricks motor with the 6 one barells looks so sweet. it gets old fast going to car shows and seeing a 350 in every thing from jeeps to t buckets. sure i love the 350's but i get sick of them. now a build up six a done up 327 a smoking 383 stroker or a SB 400 now those are cool motors. not to knock a built 350 but they get kinda boring after a while and true the others look the smae but are a welcome change

Re: how can i make my inline 6 more powerful
If you really want to go through the expense, sixes can be awesome, but the most practical way to get more out of your six is to pull it, and replace it with a small block

Re: how can i make my inline 6 more powerful
im in the process of building my 77 250. i bought intake, headers, and cam from clifford. its bored .60 over and has .60 milled off the head for higher compression. im gonna buy a edelbrock 500 cfm carb for it as well. i dont have it running yet but i was wondering what kind of exhaust sounds best on these.

I would start with a decent header. I did that to a 292 in a 63 SWB I used to own and it really woke the engine up. The only issues I had with the six was the cost of the speed parts compared to a small block. If you have a choice I would start with a 292 over a 250, there really isn't much comparison between the two. |
