CS130 Resistor

This thread has been discussed on this site and a bunch of others but I've found conflicting info. Someone on this site said that the resistor needs to handle more than 3W. However on alternator parts.com it says Use a resistor of any value between 35 ohm, 5 watt, and 500 ohm. 1/2 watt. I had a 75 ohm 10 watt resistor that seemed to work but it was huge. The 3 watt 75 ohm resistor was large. I just bought a 1 watt 75 ohm resistor that looks about the same size as the one in the kit from madelectronics. http://www.madelectrical.com/images/image002.jpg

So, will the 75 ohm 1 watt resistor work?

Thanks,
Whit

Re: CS130 Resistor

The one that MAD uses is 35 ohm 3 watt, metal oxide. I would think 1 watt might be pushing it.

Re: CS130 Resistor

I found a light with the same resistance and ohmage and used it. I've got a nearly new cs130 alternator if you are insterested ($80).

Re: CS130 Resistor

I hooked up an alternator out of a 1997 pontiac(cs) on my 72 C20 without the resistor-I have a factory guage, and I havent had any problems charging. Can someone please tell me if I need to put the resistor in? And where?

Re: CS130 Resistor

This website will tell you about the resister. The first part is the SI conversion and the second is the CS.

Re: CS130 Resistor

I just spoke with Mark at MAD and he says the resistor is a 75 Ohm 10 Watt metal oxide unit. It looks too smal to be a 10 Watt to me and he did say that he was going off of memory. He did however know the exact bulb number for a replacement of the factory dummy light, it's part number 194.
