Re: fuel pump

Looks like it, yes. It's on the passenger's side, front of the block, way down low near the timing cover, just above the oil pan.

Re: fuel pump

here is a pic I took for someone else. See the bolt to the right of the pump? it's in the front of the block. Remove it and insert a longer bolt to hold the pushrod from the cam in the up position. If you don't then it is a pain in the a$$ to put the new fuel pump on and tighten it down.

Re: fuel pump

to hold the push rod up it take my oil dip stick and put the smart end in the port holding the rod back and bend the dumb end over and wedge it against the fender well. its thin enough to fit the pump in with it in place but stiff enough to hold the rod back.

Re: fuel pump

is there a specific torque when putting the pump back on or do you just snug everything up? also do you guys silicone everything up or just use the gaskets?

Re: fuel pump

I've never used silicone on the fuel pumps before, so I don't know how well it would work. I've been a big fan of Edelbrock's Gasgacinch, and usually use it on the fuel pump and the water pump gaskets. I would think Permatex would probably work well too.

As for torque, my engine book lists 7-9 ft pounds for the two small bolts on the pump plate, and 30 ft pounds for the two larger bolts (the ones that actually go through the pump). I've always snugged mine up by hand without a torque wrench and haven't had any problems.

If you do use the long bolt method in the front of the block to hold the pump shaft, then only tighten it by hand, or at least be careful not to damage the pump shaft. And don't forget to replace with the right length bolt (with a little silicone on clean threads) when you're all done, or the engine may leak oil there.

Good luck!

I edited this post to add the following:
My truck originally came with a 307. When I swapped in a 350, and used a new fuel pump for a 350, I found that the hard fuel line from the pump to the carb would no longer fit. IIRC, the 307 fuel pump was made for a 5/16" line, and the 350 fuel pump had a larger fitting for a 3/8" line. You could check yours before you go through the trouble of pulling off the old one just to make sure it's got the right size fitting.

Re: fuel pump

There's not a lot of oil pressure in that area of the block so I wouldn't worry about slathering on the silicone. Personally I use a little bit to just hold the gasket in place. Also before installing it pack the pump with some grease and I usually pull the push rod and put a coat of grease on that too although you really don't have to do that but I ALWAYS pack the pump housing with grease prior to installing it.

Re: fuel pump

I always put a little Permatex Aviation gasket sealer on the gasket, to ensure that there is no seepage around the gasket. I then use a thick feeler gauge to hold the rod up and start my fuel pump rocker under it, after that it is in the process for tightening the bolts evenly,Tightening to 7 to 9 pounds torque is about the same as a snugged up with a short ratchet, never did more than that.
