Tilt Column Problem
I'm putting a van tilt in my 70 C-10. I've mounted the column in the truck but now the shifter will not go from Park to Low all the time. It only travels from neutral to low position. It did this when I first bought it at a swap meet, but I thought it was the wiring for the turn signal switch. I moved the wires around and it worked. Now it's doing it again and i can't figure out why.Any idea what this could be?

Sounds like something is binding inside. Possibly a part of a broken pointer. Take the column out and remove the steering wheel. Use a light and probe for obstructions. If it shifts out the truck then the problem is in the linkage.

It was doing it out of the truck too. Could part of the pointer be broken down inside the column housing?

HAd that problem on mine back in the 70's. You probably have a peice of the pointer. Ours broke in the orange and white and had to go inside to remove it. If I was you i would not reinstal the pointer. Mine has been missing since the mid 70's. i just use the mount for a pointer.

Pointer was broken off. I heated a stiff wire and pulled out the piece. Now it works like a dream.
