Polishing Aluminum...
Im looking for somewhat of a how to on how to polish alumium. Im aware that its a pretty involved process and takes time and patience. Im just looking for some info on the general process behind it. Thanks, Shane

What are you trying to polish? Is it rough cast or smooth? Is it a flat surface or peaks and valley's?

Your best bet is to buy one polished. If that's not an option then go to www.eastwood.com and check out their polishing kits. They sell all the pads, roll tips, coumpound, etc to polish it in a kit form.
It will take LOTS of hours for minimal results....

you need to first sand off the rough casting with like 120 grit then come back with 200 and then scotch bright the whole thing and see what you have the polish using a high cutting compound working up to the lower buffing compound. Home depot sells the compounds and the kit to grind can be bought from summit and jegs. Yes its alot of work. I just made a overflow tank for my radiator and am in the process of buffing it. I made this from aluminum stock and tigged two ends on it.
