Questions on first 67/72 project - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I'm putting a stepside together out of 2 different trucks. One is a '72 shortbed, and the other is a '67 with an 8 ft stepside. Having never done a project like this before, I've got a few questions. If any of you have personal experiences, I'd love to hear from you.

Problems using the 67 small window cab with the 72 nose?

Problems converting an 8ft stepside frame to a 6ft? (or better left alone)

Easier to lower a 67 frame or 72, or no difference.

I'm sure there'll be more, but this will get my gears turning. Thanks in advance, Tully

Use the short wheel base frame and then put all of your pieces together on that and then get a torch and cut that long wheel base frame to pieces!!!!

Let me know where you are and if you want to sell the long stepside bed.

Unless the 72 short frame is bent, I'd use it. It will have the more popular 5 on 5 lug pattern and you'll have a much wider choice of rims for your truck. Also, the 72 frame should have disk brakes up front already. You can shorten the other frame and swap the 72 suspension components onto it, but it seems it would be easier to swap cabs and body parts.

Yeh if you are going to use the Short Wheel Base Bed - then stick with the '72 chassis as it has a disc brake front end and the 5x5" wheel bolt pattern. (If the SWB frame isn't any good - then you can shorten the LWB - there is a great tech article on how to do this, and swap the complete front suspension crossmember and rear end into the '67 shortend frame) it is a little more work than swapping the cabs but can be done.

Shouldn't be any problems using the '72 nose on the '67 Cab.
