How tough can this be ?

I am still hunting for a project truck. If you remember right I am looking for a 1967-1968 Chevy (or GMC) 3/4 4WD. Well the cash is now in hand and the hunt is NOT going well. Can any of you western or southern guys give me some info on obtaining local truck trader magazines or how about web sites ? (I have tried most of the big ones)

Come on guys I keep hearing about all the clean ones out west and down south so ........ maybe a little help?

It doesnt even have to have an engine or trans but MUST be rust free (or VERY close)...

thanks folks.... Scott @ GMS

You may want to let folks know your location and how far you are willing to travel to get a truck. There are truck trader mags all over the country and I would be glad to look in our local one, (yes I know I am in the rust belt, but southern trucks go north too) if I thought you would have any interest. Most everyone looking for a vehicle or large part will not travel over a certain distance and shipping can be a hassle.

Jim,
I also reside in Michigan but I am willing to travel quite a distance for the right truck. Obviously I prefer to stay in the eastern region, but at this rate .....

Fred,
I have checked both of those sites and there was one i called on but its got lots of bondo and the chassis is a late model(the rear wheels sit forward in the wheelwell) heres the link to it:

http://adcache.collectorcartraderonl...6/30774856.htm

No I dont want the lift or the swampers or wheels but if the truck would have been right......

thanks - Scott @ GMS

If you are flexable enough to get a 72, this is located in Indianapolis Indiana. $6000.

thanks Longhorn,

I checked out that site a while ago, lotsa good stuff. I really prefer the look of the early stuff however. I have even thought about getiing a 69-72 and swapping the front clip but isnt the bed shape slightly different? Not to mention the cost of early sheetmetal..........

I wonder why the 69-72 3/4's are so plentiful? Production #'s?

Hey Durney, just a suggestion here, why don't you fill out your profile, then if someone see's a truck that looks promising, they will have a way to contact you.

Scott, I usually pick up a Truck Trader here when they come out on Sunday. There are usually about 25+ trucks in there in the Pacific Northwest. I would go late model for the discs etc. and get a '67 - '68 clip for the look...I'm sure that there are lots to disagree with my but that is my 0.02! The entire front clip comes off with 8 bolts...quick change!

BTW...good to see you back!

That's hat I was thinking, Swap out front sheet metal instead of swapping out for disk brakes.
The early trucks didn't sell in the numbers of the later ones, let alone a combo like 4X4 3/4 ton.

Thanks guys !

I had one lead so far and it was sold......

Anyone have any idea where to get a 67 front clip if i go the 70(?)and up route (for disc's). I think i saw a couple site for repro grilles but hoods and fenders?????

When did they change the interiors ?

p.s. If I can help any of you with engine parts or work or guidance let me know as I always appreciate those who help......

Scott, My son has a complete '67 front clip on his truck and he wants to build a fully optioned '69 - '72 (he likes the two tone trucks...kids!) This is a long shot but if you find one out here and want to switch it could be done before it is shipped. BTW...he wants a Chev not GMC.

Thanks for the offer (Mike?). I will keep it in mind.

If I remember correctly you were the gentleman I spoke with at length concerning a 400" engine combination, right?

Did you make it to the track as I had suggested?

Scott, That would be me...still painting the house! I hope to make it out there this fall before the monsoons set in. Thanks for all the good info, I am still digesting it. Like I said, this will be a one to two year project. There is still lots of research to do and then I have these pesky clients that want work done too. It never ends.

So, what happened to your legs? You mentioned something about being stuck behind your computer for a while...we love a good story on this board...at least I love a good story...here is post on my last road trip if you missed it...only about 1/2 the story...LOL!

Long gory story but suffice it to say that while runnung into the dyno cell to catch a breaking water connection.....i incurred a trip to the e-room for "several" sutures.. which I of course told the attending physician I was thinking about trying a couple....stiches that is.

The good thing was the fruit of the labor (and blood) was two successful days of testing a new 377 inch street combination. (its off season for us as my regulars are busy racing). After three cam changes with the new piston/rod components its over 104%VE and I think theres more to be found.....

Its actually got me rethinking the project truck engine.... It was going to be a 390" LS1... now...hmmm......

104 wow! This must be a very rpm specific scavenging effect happening there. I know these are trade secrets but you gotta give us a clue. Or did you just boost it a bit...reroute the heater motor...ROFLMAO! I know, the entire front of the vehicle is a 3D scoop and this only happens at 233 mph and STP!

I don't remember the production #s, but there weren't alot of 67 K-20's made, not sure about 68's ......there is a 72 K-20 sitting on a lot in Orleans, NE with a $1500 price tag...it's kinda beat up and rusty, like everything in our area, and was a farm truck all it's life, but it runs good and has 350/automatic....i can get some pics if your interrested.

thanks again for the help guys,

remember I am looking for a rust free truck (or as close as possible)

Mike as far as the 104% that comes from key relationships between 3rd pulse effects and outstanding cylinder sealing.
The intake runner length must be optimized also but with the larger header we tested, there were two manifolds that worked quite well (tip: one was a Brodix the other a Wilson).

Sorry no forced air in these tests but i did finish a single "large" turbo 304" chevy last month that went into a truck as I found out later..... it comfortably twsited the water brake to the tune of 770HP and the boost was turned WAY down. The customer has since installed an igloo and aftercooler and drives it constantly....... Ill bet thats a ride... ( I think its in a SS 454 if my guys are correct, so much for big blocks)

going down to the Woodward cruise to look for a truck today....

Supposedly a record crowd this year (1.6 million)

Holy s**!... no wonder I cant find a nice one... those are considerably smaller #'s for 3/4 ton production than I thought.

How do those #'s compare to the standard 1/2 ton's ?

Oh and by the way what were the "trim" packages back then?
Cheyenne, Camper, two tone, deluxe interior?

thanks!
