New one man shop tool/toy!
I have been playing with a new design to help me out in my one man shop and finally tonight I pulled my bed out of the attic and put together so I can play with the final model. It can lift teh cab off the frame with or with out doors and can also be adjusted front to back and side to side for any weight differance. It also can pull off a fleet side bed with or with out a gate by adjusting the center lift point. Then once it is all done it slides back inside it self for easy storage. Plans are not for sale at this point, I am just showing off a cool tool.

Re: New one man shop tool/toy!
I COULD SURE USE ONE OF THOSE TOO. MY SHOP IS ALSO A ONE MAN POWERED SHOP. THATS HOW I FOUND OUT YOU COULD REMOVE A SMALL BLOCK WITHOUT REMOVING THE HOOD ON THESE OLD TRUCKS. JOHN

Re: New one man shop tool/toy!
Well spent today doing up the plans and as it sit's their are 24 pages of build pic's with directions as well as a how to use section. I still need to finish up the material list and a complete cut list then. I have the step side thing to work out but I will get to that this weekend if I buy the 70 step side I am going to look at. I will keep everyone posted. It sure was nice for the first time with out any friends around to help I was able to get the fleet side bed moved out of the way so I could work on other things. Normaly I have to pull it apart and re assemble it on the chassie to check what ever I am doing.

Re: New one man shop tool/toy!
Nice job! I have done that before and that is why I ended up reinventing the mouse trap. It by no means is a new idea just a tweaked designe that has more than one use and will work on alot of different things.

Re: New one man shop tool/toy!
Cool! Kevin, is it adjustable so it can also work on 73&up cabs?

Re: New one man shop tool/toy!
The small block removal with the hood on trick isn't as hard as it would seem. Just get in a big-ass time crunch and you'll be amazed what you can do. No, you don't have to pull the core support; just use a short chain as a leveler with the intake off.

Re: New one man shop tool/toy!
I have found that there is one shop tool that can get anything off of the truck in a few minutes. Anyone have any ideas...
Beer, you can get alot of people to help when you tell them free beer! But that is a really cool idea, with the beer tool you have to make sure it doesn't get used to much before removing something or that thing may end up in pieces on the floor.

Re: New one man shop tool/toy!
you can get more engine room by removing 2 hinge-fender bolts on each side and use a prop-rod. it gets another 6 inches or so IIRC.
with a little ingenuity you can remove a hood by yourself with an engine hoist and a few tie-down straps. I've even done this on medium duty trucks (topkicks, F700 etc.) |

Re: New one man shop tool/toy!
you can also remove the front bolts from the hinges to the hood and a prop rod for a couple of inches
