look on the back of the block, where the tranny mounts, at the top, on the drivers side, there should be a 6 digit code.

the number on the back of the block where the tranny mounts is a Casting number
Casting #'s won't tell you anything about the horsepower of the motor: you need the block CODE - on the passenger side of the block above the waterpump mounting hole right on the deck of the block there is a small "PAD" with some #'s on it - and the last 2 or 3 should be letters (ie "CKD" or something to that effect) -you'll probably have to scrape the grease off it - or if you can get a small piece of sandpaper down there - it will help the letters and numbers show up better. HP Numbers for '71 (so '72 should be around the same) = 350 cid = 250hp@4600RPM (Gross) and 190hp@4000RPM (Net)

My '67 had a from the factory 327 with 4bbl... coded V1220YH... it had a TH400 behind it with A/C.... it was rated at 220HP...
What are the chances of me finding a 327 block coded V1220YH...> HEY arkracing... the V1220YH denotes Flint, Dec 20th, Turbo Hydro, A/C... But, is there a veriety of date coded for a truck built early Jan 1967? I'm looking for a correct 327 block, it's the only OEM component missing on my truck all the rest is original (trans, rearend, A/C, bucket seats) hoping to find correct block so it can be a numbers match truck. Please PM reply...
